They had a guest on and they were discussing a number of things and happen to mention that Mark Halsey earned £375 a game, I can't remember what context it was mentioned in but I was quite surprised, considering how much they have to put up with I really thought premiership referees would earn more than that.
I didn't hear it Bossman but I heard something similar recently on Radio 5 however they also mentioned that as well as their match fee they also get a 'professional status' retainer which was in the region of £80,000 per year (I think). I was only half listening at the time so I could have got it wrong and I am prepared to be shot down in flames.
That would make more sense mario, it just didn't seem much especially when you put into context with what the players earn
The salary is about 40k. The top refs earn about 80k with their match fees. They also earn extra for doing European and Cup games. Not a bad living. Plenty of them have other interests/careers too.
Matt Messias told me he used to get about £1k a game but i dont know if that was the match fee, or the average over the year when you took into account retainers etc
