Barry Conlon will rejoin Quakers after leaving two years ago along with former Republic of Ireland under 21 Michael Cummins as Quakers' boss David Hodgson adds to his squad ahead of the 2006/07 season.

Hodgson attempted to sign Cummins from Middlesbrough around six years ago but instead joined Port Vale where he went on to play over two-hundred and fifty games. With ten goals last season from midfield Cummins has proved he knows where the net is. The final goal Cummins scored for Port Vale came at Victoria Park on the final day of the season which ultimately relegated local rivals Hartlepool United from League one.

"Michael Cummins is one of League One's most consistent players who, with his high goal scoring record from the middle of the park, will bring an attribute to our squad we have been without for a number of years. If he can replicate his 11 goals from last season, he will be able to play a key role in this club achieving its ambitions next season," said Hodgson. "I have been an admirer of Michael's for a number of years and tried to sign him from the Boro before he joined Port Vale. We have beaten off the challenge from other clubs in League One and the Championship for Michael's signature, which has been made possible thanks to the budget given to me by the Chairman."

Arriving at the 96.6 TFM Darlington Arena with Cummins is Barry Conlon. Darlington supporters will already be familiar with the big Irishman as he enjoyed a spell at Quakers which lasted around four years. During his time at Darlington he netted forty-two goals in sides which predominately struggled at the lower end of the table.

Conlon's first spell at the club ended in 2004 when he joined Barnsley however not before helping Darlington escape from the bottom end of division three as it was then known. Both players were out of contract at their respective clubs but attracting interest from elsewhere and Hodgson was quick to thank his chairman for providing the finances to bring the players to the club.

"We are now in a position to challenge other clubs from our division and above for the signatures of quality players, which includes Barry Conlon. Barry was a great servant to Darlington during his first spell with the club and he will offer us the opportunity to play a target man up front who can aim for a return of 15 goals and provide the perfect foil for a 20-goal-a-season striker we are still on the look out for," said Hodgson.
