On main road as your going to walk up towards Wynsors, a Woman in a car nearly knocked a lass down cause she couldn't wait she tried overtaking, anyways bloke gave her what for and she carried on looking at him, put Foot Down then nearly knocked a Bloke over.
She wasn't overtaking anyone, she was trying to drive along the road when people started walking in front of her car. The people involved then started abusing her 'fat bitch' I believe was the term used and started hitting her car. As she tried to carry on down the road (after being forced to stop) another tool walked in front of her and then started shouting. In case people have forgotten that 'main road' is funnily enough a road. You know, that place designed for cars. Why people believe that they can just walk out directly into the path of vehicles just because they've attended a football match is beyond me.
Yep. I park at a friends on belgrave road and regularly have to try and get through a sea of fans on the road. Does my head in there's sometimes no folk on pavements at either side just everyone walking up the middle of the road
I never understood why people drive down that road after a game, madness. Having said that folk just block the road and are always spoiling for aggro with anyone who dares to drive. 5 minutes later when they're in their own car it would be a different story of course....
She was actually driving along Pontefract Road when people walked straight across in front of her car to get to Oakwell lane so she wasn't even coming down the road where I agree, it would be crazy to come down.
I saw the Domino's delivery van battling through the crowds - enough pizzas to feed an army. Treat for the team?
IMHO Oakwell Lane should be access only. It is used as a rat run 24/7. The way people park on the Railway Bridge is dangerous. I am surprised there isn't more accidents on it.
People are like Lemmings I hate it after the match... think they have the same rights as cars. Yes my car once got booted too.. so did the bloke who did it.
The top half with the bridge should be double yellows, so should the side of the road opposite the houses without the pavement. I don't think it should be access only because it is such a vital road linking two main roads and there is no real alternative. It should definitely be more managed though, on matchdays in particular it should be closed off to vehicles at least in one direction.
You think that cars should stop in the middle of the road to allow thousands of people to cross the road in front of their vehicle? Really? Do you often stop your car for people to walk out in front of you while you're going about your daily business?
Different situation Life is full of judgements Decisions I would always stop to allow them to cross in such a busy area If not how do they cross ?
They could wait 2 seconds for your car to pass and then walk behind it. I know that's a bit of a radical idea. Yes mrx, there was a gap behind her car with nobody behind her
here is a radical idea. pedestrians could look to see if a car is coming before crossing or walking out. Car drivers could look to see if there is any pedestrians wanting to cross... seems to work 99.9% of the time unless there is a football match on.
Thing is, the driver has the right of way as there is no zebra crossing. Any other time other than after a football match then pedestrian's wait until cars have passed before attempting to cross the road. This isn't having a pop, its just stating the facts.
Operate the same system as Blackburn did to us. Lock the car park gates and open them when all the crowd on foot have gone. We were leaving at the same time as the players. Also up the charge to the same as Blackburn, 10 quid a car. Simples.
And what about the poor folk who are not football traffic and have to join the whacky races involuntarily? It's time BFC and the police considered road safety a little more than they do.
its absolutely stupid at the bottom of Oakwell lane after a match always has been, cars coming along the road and hundreds of fans needing to cross but no actual recognised crossing, given that its hardly a surprise to the majority of people would it hurt to have a proper crossing there or even a couple or three coppers (cost peanuts in the general scheme of things), if people knew they would get across on a regular basis the majority would behave?
Its not just at football matches.. I drive for a living...people look directly at you and step off the kerb..then just look straight ahead, as if, if they can't see you, they will be ok..Its mainly young people (teens) or the very thin ash faced types. I always try to avoid hitting them, slowing down or swerving. But I do have a little laugh to myself that one day they will meet someone driving, who has the same attitude as them..you know, me before everyone..then they'll be in the poo poo..
