Play offs one season included a team from Prem Lg (or Top flight whatever it was then), and the Final was played at Birmingham City & involved Charlton (?) Vs Leeds. Charlton won to stay up, and a spectator was killed when a wall fell down. ??? Could be mixing up a few events there but I def remember a team from top flight having to win a Play Off final to stay up? (chinny)
1987 , Charlton from Division 1 & Leeds from Division 2 The final was over two legs , the scores were level , a replay was held at St. Andrews , Charlton won with two Peter Shirtliff goals . Funnily enough , that's not the subject I dream about !!
someone was killed at St Andrews when Leed fans invaded the pitch and a wall collapsed in a league game, same day as Bradford fire I think.
Yup , you're right Owen The incident became a mere footnote , though , after the events at Valley Parade .
RE: Yup , you're right Owen I think the incident involving the fan being killed was a different game - Birmingham v Leeds. Couldn't have been the playoff final for it to have happened on the same day as Bradford playing their last league game.
It was Leeds v Brum Wasn't someone hit by a fire extinguisher and Leeds fans were stabbing the police horse's?
I don't think I've made myself clear As Owen quite rightly said , the incident with the fan being killed was in 1985 at St. Andrews in a league game between Birmingham & Leeds ( on the same day as the Bradford fire ) . The Play Off Final replay at St. Andrews between Charlton & Leeds was in 1987 .
Well obviously I didn't dream it! ... but don't get me onto what I do dream about - now that is wierd!
