If so he could be a top signing? Welsh under 21 international who recently turned down a move to Colchester United. Should we push the boat out though? From Colchester Utd Website: The U's have missed out in their quest to sign Ramon Calliste - with the young forward opting to seek a full time deal elsewhere. Boss Phil Parkinson admitted to U's World that he had offered the former Manchester United a contract, but was reluctant to push the boat out on a player who has yet to make his league debut. "Ramon won't be staying with us," he said. "I liked what I saw in the games he played and worked hard to negotiate a contract with him, but it came down to us having to make him our best paid player to get him here. "We are working to a budget but we also have to be fair to everyone else in the squad - and a lad that's never played a league game has to come in on a certain level of money that is within our wage structure. "Apparently some other club has given him the money he is looking for, so that's it." Calliste played four times in the pre-season fixtures, notching a goal per game against the U's opposition. Parky admitted that he saw some ability in the Welsh U21s international. "He had potential to do well for us and I would have liked to have got him. But I did see him as one for the future and not someone who could go straight into the first team and his salary had to reflect that if he was to sign here." Parky stressed that he still has a number of irons in the fire with the season just ten days away but admitted his frustration at how the Calliste deal had eventually turned out. "One of the problems we have is that we do not pay agents fees and as soon as agents know that, they will actively work as hard as they can to move their players elsewhere, because they want the money to pay their mortgages. "Ramon's agent asked me where his fee was coming from and if he wasn't getting it, Ramon would be going elsewhere. At that stage, I knew it was unlikely the deal would go through."
Looks like it from report further down and took a good penalty. Whats with these 'Welsh' junior internationals? Nardiello? Caliste? Very Welsh I'm sure. Best take care on the underground
LOL You should know that to qualify to play for Wales all you have to do is prove you have onced owned a Welsh Terrier. That seems enough nowadays.
Good on Colchester for not paying agents fees Can't for the life of me understand why any club would. The agents work for the player and against the club. It's their role to screw the club out of as much money as possible. And then the majority of clubs pay them for the privilege. The football league has just published the figures that highlight the millions of pounds that are lost from football, which line the pockets of agents. If the chairmen of league clubs had anything about them at all they'd get together and refuse to pay agents fees.
RE: Good on Colchester for not paying agents fees I agree. I also gather the wages he was asking for would have made him the highest earner at the club even though he hasn't played a league game yet. I suppose we'll have the wait and see what happens. I wonder who the other trialist was.
RE: Good on Colchester for not paying agents fees Ah but then you're into questions of the true nature of man, selfish or co-operative for the common good? Your mate Shep has these deep conversation with Ken Bates all the time.
It's lunacy One meeting of football league chairmen and the transfer market would suddenly become bouyant again. The vast sums of money a club currently spends on agents fees could be used for them to purchase a player. The money stays in the game and the club that has sold is now a few bob better off and in a position to buy. And so on and so on. That's how it always worked. The game is run by retards who don't appear to understand what a chuffing mess they're making of it.
RE: It's lunacy But Jay, Jay, you'd always get some club prepared to pay that little extra to secure the player.
Draw up a legally binding document then Or better still, get the FL to make payments to agents illegal. It's a conflict of interests.
RE: Draw up a legally binding document then There are rules governing use of agents. Of course they mean ****. In any one deal the club may use an agent and the player may. What happens is that the club increases the players wage to cover the players obligation to pay the agent. In other words the payment is indirect from club to agent
