Said that league cup 1st and 2nd round ties should be played in pre season. That way pre season games have more riding on them and the third round can start first week of september. That was his way of making more people interested in the mickey mouse cup and it's a pretty good one.
Would the managers be able to play two completely different lineups in each half? Also, however you look at it, these pre-season games provide extra revenue for the clubs. Managers want less games and chairmen want more.
The whole point of pre-season games is to prepare the squad for the competitive games. Get players fit and try out different things. Can't see how putting competitive games in the pre-season is a good idea. May end up with a load of injuries as under-prepared players would be expected to give their all, which is definitely not the case with friendlies.
What I was trying to say was... Totally irrelevant I know, but... Guest beer at the moment in the Thornely Arms, Dodworth is Wychwood Hobgoblin Now where have I heard that before?
The Carling Cup Should be fast tracked so that the final is November/December like the Jocks used to do. Absolutely no reason for the later rounds to get squeezed in between FA Cup ties and increasingly vital League games.
