Did we all fall for an act in believing Flitcroft was a lovely bloke?

Talking about the fans on internet message boards who were the only ones who weren't behind him and always wanted him to fail

Not sure I have ever thought he was a lovely bloke. Dont know him at all to really say what he was like. Some of the things you list, well 1 in particular, made we wonder about him. Plus his interviews were excruciatingly cheesy. Sorry, they just were. I did get behind him though, thought he did want what's best for bfc. To be fair I ain't that bothered whether the manager is a nice bloke or not provided they do the job well. He didn't.

    No, I never met him.

I wanted him to succeed as our manager though. Managers come and go, BFC are for ever.

Treatment of Hassell, what treatment. Hes done good by him. He wasn't good enough for the championship or league one yet he gave him a contract for a championship club to get is 10 years.

He did well by Alnwich, this season he did good by him and letting him leave. Hes now move and become number one at another champ club.

RNL, Is there any room for him at the moment. It'll do him a lot of good. Getting away from the oakwell first team set up for the first time in about 5 years will do him good.

We don't know what happened with him and Don, Mr Cryne must have been on Flitcroft side.

    Signing friends? Who?

    When was the last time

We had a manager leave when there wasn't a character assassination afterwards?

I'd say it was Johnny Steele. No one had a bad thing to say about such a likeable gentleman and rightly so.

    Oh dear *shaking head*.

Please nobody reply to him on Hassell. And if Hemsy doesn't know who Flitcroft's mate was, then I despair. Seriously, you don't know? It's only been mentioned about 100 times on here over the past few days.

Re: When was the last time

You're right. And I do get annoyed with all the Danny Wilson is Judas nonsense too, although there's not been as much of that this time. He was completely torn when he got offered the Wednesday job, hence the dithering. Ultimately he left us for a much bigger club (certainly at that time) in a division higher than us. What's more, he took the b*ggers down, so he went up in my estimation. He only did what Clarke did 15 years earlier and Clarke came back and did a (more or less) decent job.

But we have a pop at Wilson for leaving for Wednesday and then have a pop at the board for not letting Ritchie leave us for Wednesday. And you have to bear in mind that just about every other manager we have had since Allan Clarke the first time has either been sacked or left at a point where they were just about to get sacked, so it's a bit rum expecting blind loyalty from managers when they have the chance to set themselves up for life with a decent move.

Who knows what Flicker was like behind the closed doors at Oakwell. He certainly appeared nice enough to me and the way he spoke about the fans was exactly the opposite of his predecessor (who I thought was an arrogant to55pot). And I wouldn't start asking players who haven't been playing in the first team to give a balanced opinion either!

    I agree

That's exactly why you should never rush to conclusions if you've only heard one side of an argument.

Re: When was the last time

    Well said, Gordon.

I've met Flicker 3 times, immediately before a match (ie on the pitch and in the dressing room on each occasion). One of these occasions was with Keith Hill.

Hill was arrogant in the extreme, yet on every occasion Flicker was a really likeable bloke and was ever so nice to my kids.

His players reacted in the right way last season, but for some reason have not done so this season.

I admit there are question marks over his handling of some players, but the scenario now is that he's gone, so let's say goodbye Flicker, and a massive thank you for keeping us up last season.

Good luck to you and your family.

Let's just leave it there, rather than speculating this, that and the other!!

Well said. Always important to get the boot stuck in just to reaffirm your own prejudices.

Go on then who were is Mates? How do you know who he hangs around with?
He knew a few of the players were, We haven't a clue how close any of them are.
On Hassell we'll see when he leaves the club. It's that easy. I think Bottom of league two at best.

How do you know what his personal treatment of those three were? If your reasoning is because he didn't pick them then there are 1,000's of other blokes who are not lovely as well.
