Agreed. From where I was behind the goal I thought Steel got hands on the ball but spilled it. Their player then went over the top of him. No pen.
RE: I thought penalty straight away If it was a penalty why wasn't Steele booked or even worse sent off, if it wasn't a penalty why wasn't the Reading player booked for diving?
Because there can be a foul without a booking And our defenders had finally made up some time and got back into the box so he wasnt the last man. Definete penalty though. Steele took the player out to get to the ball. If a defender had taken a players legs from the side to get to the ball it would be a foul. No different for a keeper
I thought Steele got his hands on it at the time, but seeing it again he doesn't look like he did. Terrible decision to be out there stretching for the ball like that though. He had a bad game yesterdat by his usual high standards.
Well I've watched it a few times And in slow motion and I still cant decide whether Steele just got to the ball first or their player pushed it past him. Tight decision and I am not sure if it was right or not - the linesman probably had the best view We might have been unlucky but it wasnt laughable
RE: Well I've watched it a few times At the time I got the feeling that the linesman did think Steele touched the ball, and Steele knew it. He was shouting at the lineo to tell the ref what he had seen, and indicating with his hands that he meant touching the ball. One thing is for sure, the linesman didn't give the penalty, he flagged to indicate what the referee had given. But maybe the ref thought his flagging was because he agreed with him? Linesman should have thought for himself and shouted the ref over if he had seen something other than a penalty. Steele should have stayed in his goal.
The linesman flagged first and put his flag across his chest to indicate penalty The ref then pointed to the spot. It was definetly the perfectly positioned linesman that gave it and not the ref
