Birmingham's success has been our good luck. Had the Blues failed to gain promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking they would have been in line for a £11.2 million parachute payment. Fortunately for them greater rewards lie ahead and the Premier League will now distribute this money to the Championship club who are not entitled to parachute payments. That will mean that Barnsley will benefit to the tune of over £400,000 and should Reading also secure promotion that figure will double. The three teams that get relegated from the Premier League, Reading (if not promoted) and Derby County would not be entitled to a split of the funds as they would be receiving their entitled parachute payment. So I guess we will all be Reading fans for the play-offs!
I never knew that either But I am still of the Anyone but the Blunts going up will do opinion. I'd quite like Burnley to go up really - though as long as Preston are in the final......
Me neither, but it is very welcome. Potentially nearly a million quid coming our way, come on you Royals. Also, if it is £11.2m then it should be more. Derby don't get it because they have their own parachute payments, so the same goes for the 3 that come down from the PL. That leaves just 20 teams to share it out. £11.2m divides into £560k each x2 (if Reading go up).
