Depends on what criteria you judge great by. She certainly made Britain solvent again, although she did it by selling ogg the crown jewels, also, having North Sea gas means that possibly anyone could have done that (although actually doing it is another thing).

However, the cost of restructuring the country in order to move the economy on was to destroy the old social order and some of its people and families with it, British society now is very different from what it was in 1979 and maybe that is not so great.

I accept that she was a mean bitch

but the thing is, if she hadn't pulled us out of the mud pit we were in. We'd be really fecked now. It needed a tough, fearless and person without feelings to do the job. She was that person and she did it well!

I have no problems in understanding that people hate her and would love to see her dead.

She did a job, a job that possibly needed doing (unless you have some ability to teleport back in time and run a few what-if jobs with other scenarios we'll never know if it was the only solution) but she did it by walking roughshod over certain people, for that I can never like her.
