What do you think causes the seemingly huge gulf in majority opinion between the BBS and our Facebook fan groups? I know not everyone here is, and I respect those of you who aren’t, but I’d say a majority seem to be more left-wing or liberal, and usually pro-remain - again, with obvious exceptions. I’m not having a go. On the BFC Facebook groups there seem to be a lot more UKIP, Brexit Party and even BNP types. Example being taking the knee. On here it seems to be a civil discussion around whether the gesture is helpful or not, with a consensus that racism is real. On the Facebook group, you’ve got people left, right and centre lining up to say that “white men are the real victims of racism now, BLM is Marxist and want to kill all the whites” etc. You’d think Facebook would have a younger demographic, so usually more liberal, but the opposite seems to be the case. What gives?
The BBS is home to the most wonderful, enlightened, knowledgeable human beings in the history of the planet. That's why I'm on. As an aside I have no idea one way or another if anything supports your observation but if you're correct could it be that Facebook is more representative of the fan base as a whole because its a bigger forum? Dunno though.
To operate Facebook only requires the intelligence of a goldfish. The BBS is a bit more old school, and a little more technical, which no doubt deters a lot of the pond life.
The majority of people who comment on the Facebook page struggle so badly to construct a coherent sentence in English that it's not immediately apparent that it's their first language.
This is the worse thing that comes out of this imo - the 'EDL Its Marxism' brigade think they're in the right and carry on their extremist views.
Birds of a feather flock together? I always think you can spot the “Facebook” user on here, irrespective of wether you agree with people 95% of the posters are civil and sane. there is certainly less reactionary posts, social media is instant and seemingly has no Consequence of action. I’ve looked at the odd Facebook group and had to leave pretty quickly, all very depressing
I've just given that thread on there a read - that Clive is a proper caveman. There's a few trying to talk sense - our very own Mr Nutkins gave it a go, but the racism is so deep in these people that it's really not worth it. The country is in big trouble imo.
My view on brexit gets very short shrift on here but a visit to Facebook groups make me shake my head
Not on FB........if outs of worthy interest it’ll be on here, FB appears to be for folk who like to shorten every word in the dictionary
I'd rather sit in the garden and discuss the offside rule with my neighbours' cats than go anywhere near Facebook.
I don’t think it’s just Tykes Talk. I’ve got loads of lads I went to school with on Facebook & around election time & then last year with BLM I saw loads of them been racist. Where as on twitter where I’ve followed friends & a few Barnsley fans they tend to be left wing & I’ve followed them for their footballing views not political ones.
The majority of BBS users, as far as I’m aware, have been online a substantial period of time and are used to a largely sensible level of debate despite different political leanings. Facebook is just an echo chamber for dipshits “mowett could of stopped us from loosing lol”
Kids don't use Facebook. Tiktok and Instagram are where its at. Facebook is mainly the domain of 40+ people who are often somewhat right wing only made more so by the nonsense propaganda that is fed to them about all kinds of stuff. I'd go as far to say that parts of it are veering into being an Alt-Right platform.
On Facebook there’s a huge correlation between the people who share things like ‘post this as your status otherwise Facebook will charge you next week’, ‘watch out for people putting water bottles on your car, they’re trying to kidnap you’ etc. etc. and those who share right wing posts. It’s funny because I have loads of teachers, TAs and dinner supervisors as friends on there from various schools. All the TAs except one (and we’re talking about 20 odd here) all share the obviously ******** posts that I’m forever linking to Snopes on, loads of ‘share this to win an unrealistic prize that’s obviously not posted from the real company account’ and the UKIP style ‘we should be looking after our own’ (but really meaning sod everyone else) ones. Multiple times a day, every day. I’ve muted quite a few because of it. I know these people though, they’re not racist. They work with kids, staff and parents of different races every day and they are wonderful with all of them and are caring people. Yet they get home and share this stuff, it’s baffling. Not once, literally ever, have I seen any of the teachers (about 60 people as have people from my uni course too) post any of those things. It’s got to be education and the ability to spot a scam a mile off that’s the difference.
I did that with my neighbour who by profession is a top Football league referee, we came to the conclusion that neither of us had a clue.
