How do I convince Laura that she isn't fit enough to do a Sponsored Walk from Kingstone School to Spencers Arms at Cawthorne on Sunday? Her Year group are trying to raise money to put towards their end of school Prom next May. Laura is adamant that she wants to join in with the walk despite having spent most of the last two weeks in bed with first a viral infection and then the sickness and diarrhoea bug that's been doing the rounds. In fact she spent most of yesterday in bed but got up for school as normal this morning! One thing I can't knock is her determination but think that at present the walk may be a bit too much to take on at present.
can't she start it with the option of assistance if she feels unwell? no-one would object surely? except Laura maybe??!!
Her Head of Year has said that parents can walk with them if they wish. At the moment I'm debating whether to go with her and let Kev be on standby to come and pick us up as and when necessary. I have mentioned to Laura that we could still send some money to school even if she stayed at home, but she thinks that's cheating. The Head of Year has also said that it's not the only event planned to raise some funds.
I don't know what to suggest for how you can talk her out of doing the walk, as she sounds like one determind young lady! I would be worried though as i bet her immune system is quite low after having two bugs in such close succession.
It is, she's come home from school took some Migraleve and gone straight to bed. I'll have to get her up in a while and try and get her to eat as she's hardly ate anything (kept it down) for the last few days. Struggling with medication as well so can't leave it much longer before a trip to hospital will become necessary - hence why I don't think she should push herself.
has she got......... any sort of buggy she could be pushed in? or wouldn't that be acceptabl;e to her?
RE: It is, I'd definately put my foot down on this one Crystal, sounds like she pushing herself way too far
She had a wheelchair/buggy when she was little but would never let anyone see her use it. (Outgrown it so could do with sorting out a wheelchair) When she was ill at Primary School, before I had a car, and I had to go and fetch her, I had to fold the chair up and leave it near the gates so as her class mates couldn't see that she needed to use it. Her determination gets the better of her, she will push herself so much and then flop once she gets home leaving us to pick up the pieces. I'm hoping she'll see sense and that Kev and myself will sponsor her not to walk.
She has Severe Renal Failure. Her Kidney function is approx 25% and she will shortly require a transplant. She has had Chronic Renal Failure all her life but once the function gets to 30% you are classed as having severe or end stage renal failure. You can read more about her on http://www.postpals.co.uk/pals/Laura+H
That's a fantastic idea! Put me down for £5 as well. Plus, tell her if she walks I will follow her and tell her crappy jokes the whole time.
Cheers Ian. I'm sure she'd love the company on the walk! Hopefully I'll be able to convince her that she'll "earn" money for staying at home rather than walking. BTW How come it took 4 hours for a pint and a curry last night!
Cheers. I suppose that Kev could do the walk with her and I could be sat in the car waiting for them. Memo to self - find insurance papers! I'm joking obviously
Come on You know if Kev goes, he'll only be fighting her for use of the chair & sulking if she doesn't let him win!
