Is it possible to safely remove anti reflective coatings from glasses lenses?
I've a 2 year old pair on which the coating is deteriorating but otherwise they are largely unscratched. The high index lenses cost me £150 so it seems a bit barmy to throw emas I'd like to keep as a spair pair. Just wondering if the coating can be removed to make them half decent again.

The coating can be removed - but I'd be surprised if they guarantee the integrity of the lenses when they come back - it can leave a watermark effect.
If the lenses are 'Zeiss' or 'Rodenstock' or similar branded, then the coating may not be removable, or they will just refuse to do it as the chances of leaving the lenses marked are very high.
That said, a reputable branded lens may be guaranteed for 2 years - if so get them to change them under warranty. These days a coating shouldn't lift within 2 years, the manufacturing processes are much better than they used to be.

The optician I use only offer 12 months guarantee. Not sure of the lens manufacturer and I have just ordered another pair (doh) Just chewing over whether to spend money on getting these ones reglazed for an extra £100?, have a last effort to remove the coating or just leave as is for a spare pair. quite like the frames sithi, which are in good nick. Read some internet crap abart using brasso etc
Brasso ? Don't touch them.
Get back and kick off at them about the standard of the coating. He might offer a 12 month guarantee but if he uses a decent supplier they'll give him 2 years warranty.
