Does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of an old mattress? We are contemplating buying a new one from eBay, but the age old concern of getting rid of your old one is the only thing holding me back. A lot of people say landfill isn't such a good idea because of certain fire-retardent chemicals used. But if I did decide to get rid this way I haven't got any sort of transport big enough. There is the option of getting the council to collect, but apparently they charge £40 for the privilege, and that is too expensive. Are there any other options please? Any ideas at all? And no, I won't be burning it either.
Get some rope fold it up and tie it up like they do a meat joint. should fit in the car then. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I got rid of one by rolling it up and tieing it up then in back of car to dumpit site. Helps if yer a fat barstard like me to sit on it whilst another does the tieing like.
Might be a daft question, but was that Barnsley Council? A fiver would be fine, much better than £40!
A simple Google search and I found the answer I needed, which also backed up your claim. Cheers mate. https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/service...d-recycling/request-collection-of-large-items
I once put a single mattress in a wheelie bin. Took a few collections and had to dismantle down to individual springs.
When all the fuss was about fridges I cut a fridge freezer down to a few bags of unrecognisable rubbish. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Just £16 here with Wandsworth Council (SW London). Barnsley Council seems a bit steep at 40 quid if that's correct.
Wait for a neighbour to get a skip and dump it in that, there's always an old mattress in every skip you see!!
Roll it up, pull a Barnsley shirt on it and tek it darn to oakwell. Hill or Flicker will be in for it like a flash. Do it before window closes, undisclosed fee. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Couldn't you donate it to a homeless person? They'd probably be really glad of a mattress. Especially a double one.
I was trying to think what to do with my old mattress. I've almost made the decision but I think I'll sleep on it
