Genuinely thought he really tried yesterday. Put the ball perfectly on Russell’s head for one of our best chances of the game. Came close with a chance of his own and obviously scored our consolation goal. You could really tell he was trying to pull the team through. Just thought it was worth highlighting something positive amongst all the turmoil.
I’ll be honest, I thought he struggled in the first half. Second half he was class though and our only player who looked a threat and like they could create something. As of right now, probably our best player and the one to make the money from. Phillips needs to get back to his goal scoring/assisting level again.
Nobody should be written off after 45 minutes of action, in my opinion. Do get what you’re saying though and you’d like to think that he, and the rest, can show some more for the remainder of this season.
I would like to see him play in a two just behind the striker. We have played the formation a few times, a 3-4-2-1
He's obviously a quality player but there's been a lot of games where he's been pretty anonymous so it makes total sense to play him where he can be more involved and hurt teams.
Don’t disagree at all with this but who would be the lone striker? It ideally needs someone with a bit of physicality, aerial presence and who will run the channels. In other words run their nads off. I don’t see that player anywhere in the squad. Either of the Stockport forwards on Saturday (Wootton or Oloafe) could do it. Where do these clubs find players like that when our recruitment team can’t? I remembered we did actually sign Oloafe then messed up the paperwork. Not like us that…..
Time will tell I suppose, hard to judge him on a 45 minute appearance in a shocking team performance. He didn’t look one bit physical though and not really big enough to have an aerial presence. We’ll see…..
I agree. I thought he was really unlucky with that effort that just went past the far post after he'd turned two defenders on the left wing and cut in and shot. He's certainly proved to be a very good signing.
