Do we have any Apple Mac experts on the board?

I'm wanting to do some video editing and my (fairly decent spec) PC can't handle it .... well, maybe I haven't got the patience.

Anyway, without wishing to spend upto a grand just for a some graphics work, would I be able to install the Apple OS and install it on a normal Intel powered <del>PC</del> machine?

    Thanks

    TonyT.

I'm almost certain that you can't

I tried way back in the dim and distant past when I first switched from apple to "PC" . If it was possible then everyone would be doing it.

    So am I

Because MacOS is designed for such a limited range of hardware it will not have a driver base for the massive variety of PC hardware that Windows supports.

As for video editing, what, specifically are you trying to do? I used to mess with that stuff a fair bit and might be able to help out.

    Works for me

But seems to involve buying a new motherboard using the same chipset and onboard hardware as Intel supplied to Apple for their Intel-based machines.

    Thanks all

I'm trying to edit some home videos which I have on my computer (vob format). Maybe I'm not giving the programs that I do get to work enough time. Basically, i'm encounting audio/visual synch issues on some, crashing programs (mainly with the free software), too much quality loss on others, jsut lots of niggly little things.

All Apple computers have intel processors...
    http://www.apple.com/uk/

And you can even install Winshit err. i mean windows on it
    if you want.

A Macintosh now cost as much as windows computer, and
it trillion times better than the stuff coming from Bill Gates.

Shouldn't be any quality loss unless you're re-encoding and I don't see the need.

I would use VOB2MPG to extract to program streams, then demux to elementary streams with TMPGEnc or ProjectX.  Then use Cuttermaran to edit and join.

All freeware except TMPGEnc  which the old freeware betas will be fine for this task.

    RE: Thanks all

I think that's where I've been going wrong. I've been trying to use one program to to do the whole process instead of splitting the process up.

    Thanks once more.
