I've watched the match between Barnsley and Birmingham this evening and everytime the ball was on the floor Barnsley murdered the team that is second (repeat second) in the Championship

AND............its worth remembering we did this with our most skilfull passers of the ball out of action
While watching the game I wondered what would have happened if De Silva and Andy the Iranian would have been playing and we actually decided to play football against a team that looked and played more like the L.A. Raiders than a Championship footballl (soccer) side.

BUT NO........our tactics were to thump it up field to a 5'6" tall striker surrounded by 2 centre backs that were nearly as tall as me
These sort of tactics rely on the lack of skill of opposition defenders, they rely on opposition defenders making a mistake, hence our goal tonight. These tactics do not rely on the skill of our own team to create a goal.

Now I understand that Simon Davey knows about football and us supporters know next to nowt........but it would be nice to see SD having confidence in his own players to say............OK, no more tactics today, yer know your positions, go out there and enjoy yourselves..................because to tell you the truth, if that did happen, with the present squad we've got, we would slaughter teams like Birmingham.
Birmingham rely on power and speed......thats all they have got.........us at Barnsley have got more than that

Doncaster Rovers have been at the bottom of the league all season but their manager has insisted that you can play football in this division and still win.
That manager has suffered loss after loss after loss but he has kept to the same principles.
I would say the Doncaster and the Swansea managers have been Managers of the season in this division - thing is, right now, WE HAVE BETTER PLAYERS THAN BOTH THESE TEAMS.

I agree Y.N but, and a massive but, there's a need to take into account that this manager does not think like any other manager and his biggest problem being, is thatI suspect he suffers from distorted cognitions. From what I heard last night from many long life supporters is, if this man is in charge next season, irrespective of the outcome, many do not intend to re-new their S.T.

Its the sort of fashion to use power and speed tactics in this divisions.................

..............and SD is following that fashion (hence trying to hang on to Odejayi) but others such as Donny and Swansea are showing that you don't need to use those tactics to be succesful

The thing is............SD didn't have the tools at the begining of the season to play teams off the park - but I think he has now
For example - some of the touches on the ball by Bogga last night showed he is more skillful than anything what Birmingham had or showed during the match

I think Doncaster DID make some changes

They haven't JUST carried on playing the pretty-pretty stuff. They are now a bit more direct by all accounts.

I agree with your comments though.

Why didnt he have the tools at the beginning of the season?

He has been in charge long enough to have implimented his own ideals on the squad, he has been given the backing to bring in more players than any other manager in recent seasons, yet, we still find ourselves looking over our shoulder at the bottom clubs hoping that they dont go on a good run a nd drop us in the mire even further.
Its time Simon Davey stood up and explained why we are still in the same relegation battle as we were when he took over, even though we now have a squad of players that should be pushing for a possible play off place. The players are there so what is the problem????

RE: Why didnt he have the tools at the beginning of the season?

I think SD and PC went for Kev Phillips and maybe a few others that we didn't hear about and missed out on them all except for Ian Hume
So SD tried to go with Macken, Odejayi and Mostto.............and only Macken has shown anything this season and even he dosen't seem the same player he was last season

If we had got rid of Howard before the start of the season and got players of the same calibre as Bogga, Mifsud, Andy the Iranian and Hammil, then we would have stood a good chance of getting into the playoffs.
As it stands now we got the players we needed for Christmas..............which is far far too late, the horse has bolted
Hence our position in the league

This season has been nothing but another false start

Simon Davey has had plenty of time to get the right players in

    2 pre- seasons, not one.
all the transfer windows and yet we are still at the bottom end of the league.
Never has a manager been given so much backing and produced so little improvement, not in player personnel, but league position.
It must be down to something, if we all agree we now have better players, now I wonder what that could be !

RE: Why didnt he have the tools at the beginning of the season?

The reason we are where we are is because we are playing the wrong formation and players out of position,I dont think Davey will change it because if he did and we played well it would make him look the stubborn idiot he is
