Do you accrue holiday hours/days while off sick and unpaid leave

    i.e if i take 2 week off sick would you still be entitled to the same amount of paid holidays days/hours

    Same goes for leaving early at work i.e doctors,dentist etc

    Yes, you're still an employee even if you're on longer term sick, so your employment terms remain the same.

    Yes anything, if you ask for time off and it's granted, or if you put a sick note in or phone in and say you're not coming in or anything like that

    Yes you accrue holidays amd if you are sick whilst you are on holiday you get them back.

    For example if you have a sick note in over Xmas you would be entitled to those days holidays too

    You'd expect someone to use their leave to cover that. If they are taking unpaid/unauthorised time off to do it then I think there'd be a case for it not accruing leave, in fact they'd be breaching their contract (obviously depending on terms).

    you see thats why you should have asked this question before assuming.

    I have received an email from 3 employees on the factory floor complaining that someone who as been off sick 6 months this year are getting the same amount of holiday as them.

    I wanted to double check we were doing everything correct

    So i called ACAS and apparently we must accrue holiday balance while anyone is off sick or authorised leave (doctors etc)

    You see most people don't see this side of business - the complaints usually arise from people complaining about each other

    We dont have to give time off for doctors etc if we dont want to (unless they use holiday days) but i understand getting doctors appointments to work around work is difficult

    So next time might be best to ask the question before assuming i am trying to rip someone off

    I take it you've told the person that this as arose, and who the 3 are that's tried to do him out of holidays?

    The person in question doesnt need to know everything

    The complaint was made direct to management not the individual concerned

    The guys that complained will be told everything is correct and that will be the end of it

    Pointless me telling the guy concerned that people have complained ( just make things worse)

    Trust me men are 10 X more bitchy than women

    I know they are we end up at blows all the time here, because of this snidey *****, our gaffer would have told him and turned a blind eye while it was sorted out makes the snide b'astards think twice about grassing and moaning next time
