    Worryingly enough so do I!!!

I don't have a problem with Muslim women going about their business with their faces covered but I don't think it's unreasonable to request the scarf is removed during a meeting or summat similar - especially if someone's gone to the trouble to arrange a third, female person there.

In fairness to the Muslim Council Of Great Britain, they agree with him as well...

    With a few caveats

I think the media are trying to twist his words and generate an issue where there isn't one - he hasn't said that they shouldn't be allowed to wear the veil and he hasn't insisted anyone remove it when they go to see him. He requests that they remove it and, so far, nobody has refused, so it's down to personal choice - he would still speak to them even if they refused to remove the veil.
Some people would, rightly or wrongly, find it intimidating or a barrier to conversation which is what he points out. He is merely telling the Muslim community that this could be the case.
If Muslim women wish to wear the veil then that is their decision, however they should also be aware how this could be perceived.

Totally agree... It makes a mockery of

The fact that you have to remove a crash helmet in a bank etc and Sikh,s can get away without even wearing a crash helmet.

Its a joke that they can get away with stuff like this and hide behind the old "on grounds of religion"

    This is ENGLAND.

    Agreed...

Doesn't take much to get the media excited about such things...

I think he has the majority of people with him on this one.....

but if they insist on looking bloody stupid, it's their right in a free country, these people are only making things worse for themselves, as long as they don't want to integrate, they will never be taken seriously.

In Saudi my wife had to wear full garb, couldn't drive, couldn't bring in a bible, couldn't go to church (because they banned the building of them) and had to abide by THEIR laws. As she said it was a question of being a guest in their country. These people (viz Muslims) are guests in our country. Even if they were born here they are still guests, as they see themselves as Muslim first and British second, and a poor second at that. I wonder how many would have come here if we still had National Service?

I doubt any would come if we had National service, as with the mines........

they did'nt want that either, I generally think that people in this country are growing weary of the demands of a certain section of the Muslim community, and as such, their chances of a settled life in this country are wearing thin by the day.

Copied from an e-mail i was sent, how true it is (p.s. i'm no racist!)

This is important read, save St George save England.

After many cities not wanting to offend other cultures by putting up Xmas lights.

.....After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's license with her face covered.

.....After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa, Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend others!

This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen & published in a British tabloid newspaper.

    IMMIGRANTS.NOT BRITON’S MUST ADAPT.

Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on London, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits.

However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the politically correct" crowd begin complaining about the possibility that our patriotism is offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of London being a multicultural centre for community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britons, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over
Centuries of wars, struggles, trials and victories fought by the untold masses of men and Women who laid down any one of the millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political
    slogan.

We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If St. George's cross offends you, or you don't like “A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, "THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

If you aren't happy here then f#@* off! We didn't force you to come here.

You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy really, when you think about it.

I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please.

No matter how many times you receive it... please forward it to all you know.

That might have been better had it clearly not been copied and amended from an American article

"In God We Trust" is our National Motto

errr....no it isn't, it is, however, a motto of the USA!

So, the Brits have undergone a surge of patriotism and all want to fly St George's flag proudly?

Good luck in Scotland. And Wales. And Ireland.

Can't believe I missed that. I was too busy laughing at the idea of Scots flying St George's flag proudly. Oh yes.

It then goes on to talk about "Our pledge" - The only pledge I know of in this country is one for polishing the furniture!
Also talks about the country being founded on Christian principles.

FFS - can't even come up with an original email to attach to their article but just hacks a US one.
