Do you sometimes wish we were more like Sheffield United

    They go down
But there is always the beleive that they will go up
Running through the club is the aim that at some stage they will get into the top division
If you talk to their fans there is a general beleive year on year that if they dont go up this year they will definatly go up next year
We have had bigger crowds than them while we were in the same division
So why dont we beleive in our club like they do at Bramall Lane
It will be another sad day for the Barnsley district if the Blades go up this season
Get ready for the red and white striped shirts flooding the TARN

It may be offset by Barnsley going up as well.

They have had a much more stable club over the last few years.
A prudent Board of Directors have kept the finances in check and they haven't been in administration.

Neil is also a bloody good manager!

In time hopefully we will be

if you look how long it has taken them to get into the position they are at the minute, what is 5 or 6 years since Warnock took over?

If Ritchie continues the way he is at the minute and the board and fans stay patient towards him and the team then we have every chance of matching them in the future and they are a good example to follow.

I know fans would like instant success, me included but to be honest i'd just like to see a manager last 2 seasons in charge or even a season, it will be the first time since basset i think?

If the club can get itself financially stable again, like Sheff Utd have then and we keep the squad together give or take a few players (still a very young squad) then hopefully we can grow togther, so lets get behind the team, manager and club ;o)

I'm not just taking about who the club has been managed over the last 6 years

I'm realy trying to underline the differences in beleives and aims of the two clubs
Sheffield United fans beleive at some stage they will soon be in the top division
If it dosen't happen this season then it will happen next season
Barnsley even though we had bigger crowds for two seasons while we were in the same league, don't seem to think like that
There seems to be a general apathy towards ambition
As a club in the premeir league we would probably get 3, 4 or 5 thou less in the way of attendences compared to Sheffield United.
But this dosen't mean we are a lesser club than say Charlton, Blackburn, Bolton or Wigan etc etc
I wonder if the directors understand this ???

one step at a time Nudger

First we've got to get out of this chuffing division.
If we do that we've then got to make sure we're not relegated back down to it.
We then establish ourselves as a Championship side making sure we are in profit or at least breaking even. Only then can we make the signings that would allow us to challenge at the top end of the Championship.
It took Warnock and the board years to get Sheff Utd in to the position they are now. And good luck to them, they've shown us all what a well run club can do. Personally, I don't see any reason why we can't do the same, but it will take time. Let's concentrate on the job in hand. We've a chance of promotion this season, I wouldn't say it's any more than that, but we're definitely moving in the right direction and the team looks stronger than it has done for years.

I want to know what happens if we do get promoted

    presumably Andy Ritchie would resign?

    I agree to an extent

But how do you show ambition? is it just spending money, is it fans been optimistic?

some of the United fans i know have said they will never go up becasue they bottle it each season, so not all belive they will go up?

My point was that they have had to be patient to get where they are and i bet when Warnock took over not many fans believed that sooner or later they would go up, personally i think we will go this year.

Look at luton, when Newall was appointed everyone said it shows a lack of ambition, why? becasue he is not a big name boss on silly money?

i can kind of see your point but how do you know the chairman and directors are not ambitious?

Basically if things are going well then all fans will say that if they don't go up this year it will be the next, i say after every season, like the playoff final season, fans were talking about winning the league the following year but looked what happened then.

I think he'd only resign if we stayed up

That's the bit that's beyond us.

Actually, he usually gives a great interview. I think he's a top bloke. He's articulate and passionate and a fantastic public persona for Barnsley football club. I had reservations when he got the job, he wouldn't have been my choice, but so far he's proving himself to be a very astute manager. I wish he hadn't said what he did, but it'd be a miracle if we all agreed with everything he said.

Keep up the good work Andy.

Nudger, we're trying to recover from 5/6 years of decline. We can't turn it round in 2 minutes. Remeber Sheff U coming to Oakwell in 1999 ? With about 20 supporters ? How positive were they then ?

Football's cyclical, we've been on a downward spiral. It's getting better. relax.

    i think he

gives a good honest interview and i don't for one minute belive he meant what he said and even if he did i bet he would love to be wrong!?

Top bloke and looking good as a manager who is not affraid to make changes/drop players, like Jay said you can tell he is passionate and that the players respect him, long may it continue.

And even if we don't go up or get a playoff position, i hope he is here still next season and is given time to make it happen. in the past this has not happened and if the club wan us to be stable then this includes management ;o)

    I remeber

after we had drawn 3-3 with Sheff Utd at their place in the 99/00 season just after Warnock was put in charge and afterwards on the Radio their fans were jumping for joy at getting a draw with us as was Warnock.

so that shows how their fans attitude has changed in recent years, plus i'll just addd that was one of the best games i have ever been to ;o)

    RE: I remeber

exactly, the first three seasons of warnock being in charge of the blunts, there fans only realistic ambitions for there team was a mid table finish, but then they got to playoffs and the two cup semi's and all thats changed now is that they have realistic hopes of promotion and this has been done by sticking with there manager who has gradually improved the quality of the squad on a fairly modest buget, warnocks a *****, but i have to say he is also a cracking manager.

Should do better, with the resources at their disposal. Perenial under achievers. Must be miserable.
