Shes been planning our wedding for 2 years (its cost me loads of money). We set a date of Saturday 10th of June this year at 1200pm at Monk Bretton church. The do is at Brooklands, with a sit down meal at 0230pm. Well (it was bound to happen!) Englands first World Cup game kicks off at 2pm that day. Thing is to prevent people walking out every two mins to watch the game Ive suggested we have a screen with it on during the meal and do the speechs after the game. Shes not having it! Can anybody think of any compromises.
to be honest, from her point of view (or even from mine), I'm not sure that I would want a big screen with footy on during my wedding reception - might as well have the bash in Weatherspoons if you're going to do that. Having said that, I would also be wondering what was going on in the match, and if I was a guest I would be very tempted to wolf my dinner down and then go watch the match in the bar. It's a tough quandry my son and I'm not sure of the answer. Still, my brother (also a BBS regular btw!) has managed to clash his wedding with the Huddersfield match in April, which to me is a far more important fixture than England! Am just hoping that Sky choose to show it and switch it to Sunday! (doh)
Kill her, call the meal a 'wake' and have a big screen... ....in her honour.</p> You know it makes sense.</p>
<div><font face="Arial" size="2"><span class="440574908-30012006">Contact Sky's Soccer AM - they are running a feature of "naming and shaming" people who organise weddings in the footie season. On Saturday one woman actually complained about the timing of her own wedding! Best one though was a couple who had a 13 year old son - Helen said "If they have a 13 year old son, who cares about the wedding!"</span></font></div><div><font face="Arial" size="2"><span class="440574908-30012006"></span></font> </div><div><font face="Arial" size="2"><span class="440574908-30012006">I guess she's not being unreasonable....it's your own fault, you should have realised when you were planning the wedding that it would be during the World Cup....suggested other dates at the time (without mentioning why of course!). anyway - it's only the first England match so shouldn't be too bad......just don't invite me!</span></font></div><div><font face="Arial" size="2"><span class="440574908-30012006"></span></font> </div><div><font face="Arial" size="2"><span class="440574908-30012006">Ar lasses mate (who I hardly knew) got married and we were home to Bradford, wedding was just a register office do, reception was at Metrodome at 1.30pm......I left reception to go to the match, ar lass was ok with that but her mate was not impressed!</span></font></div>
No she isn't 90 minutes of more than likly ***** as opposed to getting your married life together off to a good start? Come on.... FFS!
I suppose it is my own fault. Cheers for the suggestions keep em coming. Ive still no solution and as Ive always expected im not going to change her mind. I cant change the time, i doubt doyle/brooks will av it. And I dont think think i will get away with the murder suggestion. However it has been noted. I think I will get on to sky though. I saw that on sat morning.
RE: I suppose it is my own fault. Fair enough, but be sure, there's a quid pro quo to be had if you give in gracefully. Use it.
i suppose you could get a load of the people you are going to invite to tell her how they will be more intrested in the match and go find the nearest tv. I wouldnt miss and englnd game for someone else's wedding. you should have got married in the summer of a odd year 05, 07,09 you mad fool
We were married on July 25th 1992.... opening day of the Barcelona Olympics... didn't get anybody leaving to watch the TV..(zzz) (zzz) (zzz) Olympics - boring!
Record it. Then screen it after the speeches etc. as a warm-up for the evening. No need for a big screen (pricey) just a reasonably sized TV in a side room. Self-interest will usually guarantee a well observed "no text or phone communication" rule.
Like it! Can't do it myself, but could get someone to do it. Cheers. How come I never thought of that.
Don't get married! Easy. Within 5-15 years the chance is you'll be divorced and with all the money you spent on the marriage you could probably have gone and watched all the England games live! Think about! It makes sense!!!!!!!!!!! (chinny)
RE: Don't get married! yes thats about right ...agree with you women ...can't live wi em and all that ..worth it though ..(banghead) but still got to watch match ,f.uck her he's got to get his priorities right beckham & co (england)
