Do you think the club is open to offers or has PC still got a long term plan ?

I hope PC has already got a new Chairman in mind and we carry on building a strong squad for next season.

    John Dennis

Ran the club extremely well and sensibly until we got to the Premier League. Was guilty of trying to 'live the dream' and over-stretched in trying to stay there and get back, which is what most of us wanted him to do. If that Darren Barnard penalty had gone in at Wembley it probably would have worked too. An excellent chairman and spokesman for the club.

    RE: John Dennis

I agree, ran the club for a long time without putting the club in danger
as other clubs did at the time and is a true fan. Always spoke extremely
well and a genuniely nice man. Didnt have any undertones like some
that I care not to mention

    Actually

That had a lot to do with the demise of Kwik Save.

Ought to be put in stocks in the car park and pelted with his own rotten veg

For all his previous achievements, John Dennis subsequently handed this club into an unnecessary painful administration which nearly, via popeye, ended in a terminal manner.

And he has not even had the decency to explain to the supporters why and how he managed it.

Errr...he overstretched the club in an attempt to get back to the Premier. The 'whys' and 'hows' are obvious. We would have all done the same.

pff..if it only it were so simple

I think you will find a certain benefactor offered to bail the club out before it went into admin amongst other matters not to mention the shat on shareholders.

    whatever

I stick by my original statement.

In the stocks for a week, a full public explanation of the events leading to administration and then I'ld let him work the turnstyles.

I thought he'd explained what went wrong on loads of occasions

It went wrong at Oakwell when ITV Digital renaged on their deal with the football league clubs.
We had banked on that money to pay the wages etc and instead of the millions we were supposed to get, we got nothing along with all the other clubs in the league.
As a result the transfer market collapsed and players we had, that the week before were worth value to the club became overnight, value less as very few clubs had money in the bank to invest and Barnsley not having a multi millionaire based board went under.
Stating the obvious but our board was made up of small time local business men not millionaire investors.
In my opinion, John Dennis if he can blamed for anything was guilty of living the dream as we all were, and if we're honest we all wanted the board to spend what they did and more.
If you want to see what The Reds means to John Dennis and what he did for the club under his chairmanship, take a walk round Oakwell before Saturdays match and take with you some pictures of the place prior to 1985?.

I can never understand the vitriol aimed at the man.

And yes I would have him back as chairman working with Patrick Cryne because they both truly have the clubs best intrest at heart.

I think the word FACT is more appropriate

and there is no allegedly about the way the club was taken into administration with no thought for the existing shareholders and there was certainly some economics with certain statements at the time

In any case I am certain there is absolutely no chance of John Dennis returning whilst Patrick Cryne has a financial involvement

The club were hung, drawn and quartered by the NatWest bank over a debt of 750K if I remember rightly. Hope you don't bank there.

We overstretch ourselves to get back to the Premier, have the income stream rug pulled from under us with the collapse of ITV Digital and the bank called in a relatively small loan of £750k. If you want to make more of it than that its up to you. Don't want to stand in the way of bitter recriminations and lynch mobs.

No reason to put us into admin

We were the biggest landowners in the Football Lerague and were only £2 million in debt. Could have sold off a car=park to pay that off. Next owner bought it with a mortgage on the land we owned. Also, he failed to consult the shareholders- why was that?

    History now but

Not many at the time and no one with Shares in the club was happy with the way things were handled.
True ITV digital money disappearing and an unsympathetic bank was the root cause but there was a lot more to it than that.
Some people either have short memories or werent really following events at the time
