Read that Telegraph piece http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...phy-final---day-when-proper-fans-go-to-wembl/ Parkey is bloody guest of honour, being introduced to the players before the game!!! That famous son of Barnsley, who got out of the place at the earliest opportunity.
I think this was long before he got his TV break. Before my time, so just going on what mi fatha tells me as he's of a similar vintage to Parky.
I can't blame anybody for wanting to get out Barnsley. Anybody I knew at school who has gone on to make something of themselves left as quickly as possible
That's not true at all. There's a thriving business community in Barnsley, and some people have become very rich indeed working in Barnsley. There are houses worth up to £2million for sale in our area, and there are lots of small businesses creating jobs and developing innovative products. It's not all rosy, but it's not as bad as some people claim. Why do we always run ourselves down? It's this feeling that you have to leave Barnsley to "make something of yourself" that perpetuates the myth that Barnsley is a run down poor place to live. Barnsley council tax payers paid for my education - I stayed here and put something back in, made a good life for myself and the company I worked for created over 500 jobs in the process. It sounds like I'm bragging, but trust me you don't have to leave to make something of yourself. Anyway I'm leaving Barnsley tomorrow for one of the worst places I can think of in the world - London. I'll be glad to get back on Monday with or without the paint pot thingy.
He started with Chronicle, went from there to Manchester Guardian, where he covered the Congo civil war in the 60s. It was his writings on sport and appearances on 'What the Papers Say' that seemed to get him his own TV show.
Should imagine shaun dooley will be there if hes not offf filming some where. Season ticket holder and sits in the ponty too
I hope somebody in the exchanging room has the balls to ask him how many players he can identify. He's done nothing for this town or club. Nothing
People make a good life and career for themselves without cutting themselves off from their family. I worked with his nephew up to a couple of years ago.
LOL.....fully agree Michael is a person that all of Barnsley should be thoroughly proud of........I know I am
