I can't recall the exact details but it was something like this..... a PV fan was giving us Barnsley fans some grief on our supporters bus after the game there, so some of the fans on the bus grabbed hold of him, dragged him on to the bus and kept him on..... only to let him off halfway back across the Woodhead Pass.
Seemed the only thing to do to the oik at the time.

Don't recall that, but I do recall the coach in front of us getting it's window put through as we were going through an housing estate on the way from the stadium.

It may well be the same incident.
I now have that vague memory of a broken window, and maybe the kid that broke it was the one we got hold of...... and let go on Woodhead.
But flip me, it's a hell of a long time ago.

We'd lost 3-0 at Vale in the FA Cup 2nd Round back in December 1976. After the match, as we all waited for the buses to leave the ground, one home fan was running down at the side of the coaches, banging on the windows, offering to take on any fans. A group of blokes from the coach in front of ours took him up on his offer, a few punches were thrown and the lad was then dragged onto their coach.
A day or so later, we then got to hear what happened to the would be hard man. After taking a pasting he was made to sit in the aisle of the coach, receiving a clip whenever he started to complain. Eventually, the coach decided to drop him off just outside Penistone and he was told to find his own way home.
As I wasn't on that actual coach, I am only passing on what should be considered hear say.

I'm certain some horse drawn carriage would've been quicker than some of the old, steam driven charabancs we used at the time!:D

    Its all true kev
Whenever I read facts about watching the reds its usually in the chronicle or a book etc and even though it brings back memories they are usually armed with official stats and statistics.
Your posts are all from your own memories and opinions and from an ordinary fans perspective which I can absorb with ease as its very much as I saw it or remember it being reported as at the time.
    Keep it up mate;)

While I would clearly never condone anything illegal (such as kidnapping, false imprisonment or assault) that's a brilliant story. Natural justice. I bet he didn't do that again.

In completely different context, as a teenager living in the South of England my cousin came down to visit from Wombwell. My dad went to pick her up from the train station only to find my Uncle Mick on the platform too.

    'What thar doin' here Mick?'
'Well I got on the train to say goodbye, and they closed the doors behind me'
'Why didn't tha get off at the next stop then?'
'Well I thought I'd stop on since I was on'

Mick got back on the next train home going in the other direction. Probably took him three hours plus all that.

If you decide to go to Duxford at any point btw - don't miss the turn off from the M11. If you do the next junction is about 26 miles at Stansted Airport. That's a proper ******* that one.

Still at least you don't get someone smacking you round the ear oil every time you moan about it.

I had my own "port vale incident" around 2002. Set on by a group of idiots for wearing a red shirt. Police didn't want to know so had to complain about them too.

Port Vale chairman was alright though and invited me back year after as his guest.

First time I've been back today since then

Things were different in 1976, football supporters were a different breed. Many were tribal doc martin thugs.
He got what he deserved... it's a long way back from Woodhead/Penistone/Barnsley to the Potteries on a dark Saturday winters night.
Bet he didn't know in 1976 anything about human rights !

Don't know about that one, but once a load of Barnsley fans in a pub near Burslem getting some grief from the locals. So about a dozen of 'em picked the pool table up and chucked it in the car park. Must have been early 90s.
