Does anyone actually believe Ritchie refused to sign players?

    Because I don't
I believe he refused to sign young players that were no better than the ones we had.
I believe he failed to sign other players as he wasn't able to meet their wages. I believe he may have thought some players didn't fit the bill. I can't see how he could possibly recruit the players we need on the budget available. You only need to look at the long list of players who had options to come here & got better deals elswhere.

Do you believe there were none available since June

That would have improved our squad?

    Because I dont buy that.

I believe he probable wanted certain players and would not compromise.

I believe he probably did not want to upset the existing squad by bringing in loan players on more money.

I believe that until recently he genuinely thought the existing squad adequate to last while January.

I believe he wanted players with something to prove rather than experienced ones with nothing to prove.

I believe he made serious errors of judgement regarding the adequacy of last seasons squad to compete not anly this season but last season too.

I'm still not quite getting my head around this at all......... I don't get why GS did his interview on the radio last week. It's almost as tho it was to set the way for todays events; soften the blow.

The impression that is being given

Is that AR refused to sign anyone per se.
I would just argue that he probably felt he couldn't bring anyone in that fitted his bill on the budget he had. I am certain he wanted to sign certain players but was blocked by the budget/ by agents laughing in his face when they hear what we're offering.
I'm certain that this could have been sorted out in house instead of public slanging match.

    I dont think so

I think he was more interested in preserving the squad status quo.

These crippling budget restrictions of which you speak where has this come from.

Both GS and now PC have stated that AR had money available for both transfers and wages and that he has refused to use it. I am in no position to question what they say.

AR has never once come out, even in recent weeks as the pressure has mounted, and said that his hands were tied by the directors.

What people fail to grasp is that AR could have been restricting wages for newcomers so as not to upset his boys.

If one decent loan signing is made before thursday then it almost seals the argument.

I believe AR is a reasonable motivator of a bunch of players in the main, adequate for league 1. He did this very well, overachieved and got us up, thanks eternally for that, but.................... his downfall was he felt he could overachieve again and the Championship proved to be too big a jump in class, sadly a nice bloke but a one trick pony unable to initiate a plan B.

He did it to put the club's side of the argument

After Andy Ritchie's comments on Radio Sheffield the previous evening . Tonight , Patrick Cryne gave his full backing to Gordon Shepherd for doing so . Therefore , if you criticise one man , you are automatically criticising the other . Patrick Cryne and Gordon Shepherd are united on this decision .
I find it very sad that recent events unfolded as they did .
Having read a lot of tonight's posts , though , it's also baffling to me why people are acting as though our club is already doomed to relegation . Some people are spitting personal poison and bile towards Messrs Shepherd and Cryne , as well as fellow posters who dare suggest possible managerial targets .
Personally , I wish Andy Ritchie could've sorted this all out and stayed as our manager . This wasn't to be . Thank you for everything you did last season Andy .
As to the next manager , who knows who it'll be ? One thing's for certain , I'll be down on Saturday to give my backing to the team . I am a fan and supporter of Barnsley Football Club , whoever the manager or chairman may be .

You appear to have an agenda.

    Yes

Andy did not want to upset the existing squad. He was too close to them. He managed to engineer a fantastic team spirit, but the lacked the objectivity required to be successful in the long term. He was unable to make tough decisions.

Fired - All your Comments here are spot on

The new manager will either been a failure somewhere else and desperate for a job or a trainee who hasn't managed before.
The players we get in won't be proven Championship players but kids on loan or gambles from the lower leagues.

It's quite simple. Go on the Oldham website and read the Chairmans comments regarding the reason for parting company with Andy Ritchie.

And I'll eat my humble pie if I'm wrong but I don't think I will be.
