does anyone know anything about media centres?

    i basically would like a set up where I can download, copy from disc dvds, films etc and connect it up to a telly to have an all in one media type set up thing. i know **** all about this kind of thing (which may be apparent) and a friend told me to get an "apple PC" which can sort all this.

    any help would be good cheers.
