    I believe it was something to do with the best players being sold on. And him not getting any money to replace them with. Abit like what's happened with us with Flinders, playoffs, higher league etc and not seeing money.

    I think new owner wanted Dowie in charge. They offered AR the job of Director of Football and he told them to clear off. Got a pay off and went to Leeds as Academy Director.

    Ritchie left Boundary Park after the Latics' board decided to restructure the coaching set-up. </p>

    Chairman Chris Moore offered Ritchie a place on the board as technical director designate. </p>

    It would have made Ritchie - who also enjoyed an illustrious career as an <b style="COLOR: black; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff66">Oldham[/b] player - responsible for all footballing matters. </p>

    But the 40-year-old former Manchester United striker, who took over at <b style="COLOR: black; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff66">Oldham[/b] from Neil Warnock in May 1998, turned the offer down as the club also revealed a new position of head coach is to be created. </p>

    <b style="COLOR: black; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff66">Oldham[/b] were top of the Second Division three weeks ago and currently lie in eighth position. </p>

    Moore said: &quot;Our supporters deserve promotion and having monitored the situation carefully over the past six months, I have decided to undertake a restructuring programme at the club. </p>

    &quot;Andy was offered the promotion which he regrettably declined, leaving us no option but to terminate his contract. </p>

    League Managers' Association chief executive John Barnwell admitted his disappointment that another manager had lost his job just three months into the new season. </p>

    &quot;I spoke to Andy last night and we knew that something was afoot,&quot; Barnwell said. </p>

    &quot;It's massively disappointing. You can go through all the things I have said over the last month. </p>

    &quot;It is the same thing as we have said yesterday and the day before after Stockport sacked Andy Kilner. One is disappointing and 21 is a statistic.&quot; </p>

    Former Latics manager Joe Royle was at Boundary Park last night for <b style="COLOR: black; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff66">Oldham's[/b] match against Tranmere. </p>

    Royle, sacked by Manchester City after their relegation from the Premiership last season, is still in dispute with the Maine Road club after issuing a writ for unfair dismissal. </p>
