while ever we have the x factor we will never have a good christmas number 1, its not as though they have done some amazing achievement of getting that prestigous number 1, they won a show and are handed it on a plate, the last Christmas Number 1 that was a shock was Mad World by Gary Jules, granted it was a cover but it just came out of nowhere it wasnt a certified fact it wuld get it, Simon Cowell is runing Christmas with this Crap he churns out year after year FACT

Gary Jules was just as ***** as X Factor xmas number ones. I think winning and becoming number one out of over 100,000 people is an achievement if you like them or not. I disagree that they are handed the xmas number one on a plate as well. It's not like anyone is forcing people to buy the record. If they have enough fans who want to buy their record, so be it.

    Of course not

The song that gets to number one is the song that sells the most copies. People buy a song because they like it, not because somebody holds a gun to their head and forces them so surely the song that gets to number one is the song that through sales was the most popular song that week.

You can argue that one song gets more airplay and exposure than other songs but every single person out there makes a choice, to buy the song or not to buy the song, those that choose to do so because they want to and for that reason alone it deserves the chart position that it achieves.

You may not like the song that gets to number one (i dont) but evidentally more people liked that song enough to buy it than did any other song.

What do you suggest is done in the future? A ban on any song that is likely to be popular in order to ensure a less well liked song reaches number one? That would be crazy so the only option is that if you don't like a song then don't buy it, if you prefer another song buy that instead. The highest selling song of the reach will reach number one.

Music is all about opinions, we all have our own tastes and like different things and that is a good thing, if we all liked the same the world would be a boring place. Music is also about entertainment, it is about putting a smile on somebody's face and making them happy, that is why people buy songs. For me it matters not if the song that is making the young kid down the street smile is manufactured pop sang by the tweenies or if it is rock or indie, the kid is still smiling and thats the important thing.
