I heard this song (starry starry night) the other day, and I never knew it was about Vincent Van Gogh!.

And here he was singing American pie as well then (in the Bbc studio, in Jan '72).
The audience did seem to be a little bit stoned and not interested.
And I think Don deserved better than that, all joking aside!.

Saw him live at a family music festival in Calgary. He has some fantastic songs. I like “Castles in the Air” and “It’s just the Sun”.
At Calgary he had this “weird half hour” where he just seemed to lose track of what he was doing. He started singing a song dedicated to Princess Diana which killed the atmosphere totally.
That was about 15 years ago. No idea if he’s still performing but it was possibly the strangest performance I’ve ever seen.

Well he does sing "Vincent" twice in the song, goes on about paint and palette and sketch, portraits and frames, remarks that he had trouble with his sanity and took his own life.

Admittedly he doesn't mention sunflowers or a missing ear.

Did you think it was about a Dutch Liverpool central defender, or maybe a darts player, a horror film actor, a libdem leader, or a bloke who dresses himself up and calls himself Alice Cooper?

    Other Vincents are available....

I saw him in concert in Hong Kong in the 1980s. He was very good except for his inter round summaries where he basically said nothing.

I've seen the Van Gogh painting which inspired the song in the Musée D'Orsay in Paris.

Great Artiste. Especially if you want some easy listening. I've not got any of his stuff. but I bet his classics album is a good un.
    Various sites reviews averages 2.5 - 4.7.

I mean, the song is literally called ‘Vincent’ - and it was also immortalised by Freddie Starr in his ‘stuck tape’ routine. It’s still pretty funny now, in my opinion.

Saw him in Liverpool 18 months ago, still fantastic, did too many covers though instead of his own excellent stuff, he has always recoreded a lot of cover versions but the best of those were not included, I would definately go to see him again

Mmm, is this like QI, where buzzers will go off the first time someone says he’s never been the same since Peter Glaze died.
