Is it me being cynical by thinking once the new manager is told of his budgetary constraints he'll realise he has to cut the wage bill by offloading his most expensive players? The upshot being Don Rowing has swerved that one nicely because then it will be a decision made by the new manager to get Steele off the books.
Its hard to believe that we might let our best players simply go for free as their contracts run down. Steele is a top championship keeper in my view and we should have been trying to sort this last summer at the latest. If he won't sign then perhaps we have to sell him and replace him at that point in time. Its a bit of a mess when he and Davies are in the situation when they hold the cards. I'm not sure I ever quite undertsood Hills 'transistional period' and 'here and now' contradiction. Cywka, Harewood, Noble-Lazarus, Done, Cranie are all out of contract in the summer too.
Cywka is worth another year, cranie looks ok in midfield and another gaffer could get him up to scratch at CB. Reuben deserves two years IMO The rest can go now for me
i believe in the interview rowing also said steele was offered a new contract in the summer but turned it down to see what happens, no different to davies imo
How we didn't take half a million quid for Done earlier this year will remain, for me, one of the most bizarre decisions I can remember at this club - ever! ....I am freshly astounded every time i think about it!!!
The way I read it is Steele is the most expensive player on our books. Is the contract being held up because they want him to take a cut in pay.
