I've been stopped twice in 2 Days at 20.10 on the same Lane by a Police drink drive check.
Copper asked me to warn everyone that they are out and about spot checking and they are catching people over the limit.

I know it's not right to drink and drive but they do spend a lot of time going after motorists! Pity they don't spend as much time catching other criminals!
Remind me to avoid that lane.................. Which one is it!?

Serious though, anyone caught deserves whatever punishment they get thrown at them. Shame they only do it over the Christmas period.

How on earth do the coppers expect me to get home from the pub then? Can they tell me that? and no i'm not taking the bus, taxi or walking. Also, having one of mi mates drive me home means he can't drink either. Chuffin coppers, ruining my christmas for me.
Drink Drivers... My uncle was killed by a drink driver around 9 years ago. The drunk survived with only minor injuries and got 4 years in jail. Ridiculous. It's not hard, some people think it's clever to drink and drive. If you get caught drinking, the penalty should be imprisonment. Straight up. The consequences of someone drinking and driving, can and are usually be fatal.
Yeh, i asked the JP that when i was brought up in front of him 4 years back. Ha haaaa, he couldn't answer me! There, i thought i'd got him and that he would let me off. But NO, 18 months without my license and a woppin great fine. Jesus, i'd only had 7 pints! I was completely sober and i had no problem driving. What they don't understand is that if you're used to drinking alot all the time then the alcohol dosn't affect you that much. I reckon they should check your background and see if your are a heavy drinker or not. If you are a heavy drinker then the alcohol level should be higher for losing your license.
It's a really interesting one this.
Had this conversation a couple of weeks ago with a mutual JP friend of Westie's and mine.
Just playing devil's advocate my question was - why are the penalties higher when, purely by chance, something goes wrong? You take a corner too fast, your reactions slowed by 5 pints, and mow down a pedestrian who, unluckily, was crossing the road. But is your crime any greater than the bloke who got caught doing exactly the same the previous day when there was no-one crossing? We couldn't come to a satisfactory conclusion. A few years inside for a bit of dangerous driving with no consequences or let those who kill by accident off lightly? At present you're punishing people differently for essentially doing the same thing.

.

I agree with what you are saying to a point but then don't you have to take the same argument to speeding, jumping a red light etc? Take the boxer (i forget who) that was mentioned the other day who hit somebody while going through a red light. No different to anyone else going through a red light really to be honest except someone happened to be crossing the road so I guess the only thing you can use to argue there is a difference is whether the driver knew (or should have known) that a person was likely to be in their path.
Isnt life complicated Go round a corner too fast - or jump a red light and dont hit anyone - no penalty at all If by bad luck there is someone there and you kill them - dangerous driving penalties If you are drunk - stiffer penalty still - I guess the difference is though that drinking makes you more likely to drive badly and increases your chances of an accident so a stiffer penalty is not unreasonable - Maybe 17 year old boys who have accidents should be punished more heavily too
