Ward wanted more money that we thought he deserved considering his experience. BFC is a football club not a bank.
But then we'd be owned by the people Its bad enough as it is with everyone knowing best. Imagine if they part owned the fcuker.
I agree.. glad we weren't held to ransom, the last chairman to go giving players whatever they wanted paid the price when we went into administration with the likes of Kevin Miller, Mike Sheron etc on silly money. If it was left up to some on here we would pay them what we want and end back in administration within two years. Thats why they sit on football forums and PC sits on a small fortune, leave it to PC, the board and SD they know what they're doing.
In all seriousness, it all depends what he does in his career If another Championship club signs him and he gets 15 goals between now and the end of the season then the club are going to get dogs abuse. On the other hand he may be a complete failure at a new club, which will prove Davey and the board were right. Signing Ward was always going to be a gamble. We've just decided we weren't going to gamble that much. Time will tell how astute that decision was.
Thats the case with any signing thats costs money tho Some you win, some you lose. I'm far more positive about a policy of risk avoidance than, say, scouring the world for the first striker we find with a pen in his hand. To me it means we have a strategy to find the right player at the right price. And that doesn't mean we'll only pay in horseshit sandwiches as the Kevin Philips episode proved.
"scouring the world for the first striker we find with a pen in his hand" Like Mostto and Christensen?
Now that we've failed with Ward I'm expecting another Mostto/Christensen signing before the transfer window closes.
Yep I'd say its pretty inevitable that if we're doing any business on a permanent basis, they will be from abroad. Maybe one of the European countries that've had their gas cut off. At least we can offer them a warm.
Its a pretty shocking list of failures up front when you look at it..... Davey has done OK in the transfer market, except for up front. He's done well with Macken (although he's past it really) and Hume (****), but otherwise its been a disaster. He'll know he needs to improve that and I think he may bide his time, perhaps with loans till he gets one he wants. Look at the list of crap Odejayi (never done it) Mostto (never given a chance) Christiansen (ditto) Coulson (failing, arguably) Ferenzci (failed, argueably) Nardiello (no comment) Leon Knight (failed) Rajczi (failed) There could be more but my brain has siezed.
