Yes I'm raising this issue because it's p!$$ing down in Leeds and Yorkshire are only going to draw with Derbyshire as a result... but I think it's ridiculous how a team can be so in control of a game as Yorkshire are in this one, and get the same points as Derbyshire for drawing (not counting bonus points). Surely it's time to adopt a system seen in village cricket where there are 'winning draws' and 'losing draws' to reward the team that's in control of the game?
it is frustrating i know mate but these rules have been in place for years, how many times have we benefited from rain in the past. still looking good for promotion, get us back were we belong, at the very top of the pile.
Don't worry It's only day 3. There's still tomorrow. It could work in Yorkshire's favour really. The downpour today could have made the wicket a bit more juicy for the seam bowlers and make it very hard for batsman. A bit of low cloud cover would also go down a treat tomorrow aswell. Keep the faith.
RE: Don't worry Yeah but the amount of rain that's falling today, even if it doesn't rain tomorrow, which it's supposed to again, it'll be too wet to start on time. We'll never take 13 wickets in that time.
I'm not saying we're the only side it affects, I'm just saying that the rules should be changed. We're still well placed yes, but a full points win in this game would have taken us top and well clear of 4th, whereas a couple of dodgy results will see us slip out if this is a draw.
Course they'll take 13 wickets! BBC weather says sunny in Leeds tomorow. As soon as play restarts the seamers will steam in to wrap up the first innings in five overs. Then it will be a case of the domino effect in the second innings - they will come and go in a steady procession with Yorks at the top of the league by Friday tea time
RE: Course they'll take 13 wickets! I've seen a radar and there's supposed to be at least some showers... hey, I'd love to be wrong. Anyway my main point is about the rules in general...
I agree about the rules but the bonus point system ensures that the team who has been dominant gets more points. It is unfair but that's cricket.
Indeed, but cast your mind back a week... If that game had been rained off with Leicestershire, we'd have got hardly any points... you can get sod all bonus points and still win.
true Do they try and make up time lost to rain the following day in the CC? In test cricket they start half an hour earlier to make up for lost time but I'm not sure if they do the same in county cricket.
RE: true To be honest I'm not sure... I think they might do as I've seen games carry on till like 8pm before, but that have been time lost in that day I'm not sure.
RE: Indeed, but cast your mind back a week... I was waiting for someone intelligent to pick up on that! Well we'd have probably have got a fairly even draw... 128/1 chasing 397 was fairly 50/50, but you're right it doesn't guarantee the points going where they would have gone had the game been finished.
Christ, you sound like my dad... you bitter Yorkie folk must believe rain only affects Yorkshire (when in a winning position) are Durham still top btw???
Lol If you read all the posts you'll see I'm on about the situation in general... it's just when it happens to your team you think about it!
