    Dreading May, June & July

What this team have achieved this year is phenomenal. Have it on good authority that no one is going anywhere in January unless a silly offer comes in. To lose Hourihane, Winnall, Scowen, Watkins, Kent & the uncertainty of Morsy will hit us hard and it could happen. These players have been a breath of fresh air and I'm not being negative in this post as I'm certainly enjoying the ride. It's finally great to be a Barnsley fan at the minute (something we rarely say).

The liklyness is that one or two will re sign but I'd break the bank to keep them all. To keep these players and add in the summer will be fantastic. If Santa is still about, that's what I want to see as a late xmas present.

Surely has been a great 2016 for us tarn fans. Long may it continue.

Think we'll keep Watkins, Scowen and Winnall. They are great players for us, but just like Brownhill they would find that grass isn't always greener. Stay at a club you're loved, settled, and well paid, and just keep on improving.

Hourihane and Roberts are Premiership class already. Wouldn't begrudge them going. Just hope we can convince them to sign 3 year deals with premiership release clauses in.

But for the first time, perhaps ever, I have every confidence that those behind the scenes have plans in place. Whatever may happen.

If you told me 2 years ago I would be worried about losing players we got from Plymouth, Halifax and Wycombe I would assume it was because we were struggling, not that we were flying in the championship. So I'll trust those in charge to have me thinking the same in 2 years!

Who knows how far this team could go if we keep it together. If key players do leave I trust the recruitment team to replace them I was worried players like angus mcdonald andy yidom sam winnall james bree and josh scowern ect would struggle with the step up but they have took it in their stride. The transfer policy patrick cryne put in place has worked wonders and made a 6 million pound profit from alfie Mawson. I just hope pat gets better to see it through because under his and hecky guide and keeping the core of the team together we could go all the way if not this season the next couple and that would be some achivement in this day and age.

Even for silly money we should tell clubs to **** off. What do we need more money for? We are richer than we've been for years, and now is the time to look beyond money. At some point the recruitment bubble could burst. Some recent signings like Jackson and Kpekawa we have to still wait and see with. We'd have to be extremely lucky to keep selling players for millions and hoping the cheap replacement can quickly be as good as the person they are replacing. I worry that if someone for example bids 5 million for Roberts next month we will bite their hands off and accept it like we did other offers in the past.

If we keep the current squad together no matter what bids in January who knows where we might end up? If we continue to sell an asset in every transfer window like we did Mawson in the last one won't those out of contract question if our ambition as a club matches theirs as a player? Think for a moment if you were one of our out of contract players wanting to play at the highest possible level and the club weaken our top half squad by following the money. That would bound to make it less likely we can get them to sign up longer. Keep them together, be brave risking losing them for nothing in the summer and if we finish the season say top 10 which more than possible maybe they will think they can get promoted with us for a second time.

Also say we sell one of our best players next month and then finish the season around the same position we are now. Those we want to sign up for longer are bound to think "look where we finished in the league, imagine what we could have done if we'd have kept Mawson and 'insert name of January sale' because we as fans will imagine the exact same thing. If we sell someone and finish lower than we are currently then if some of our players get annoyed with that they would be well in their right to.

So lets no matter what put the shutters up next month.

We have had better teams than this and managed to keep them. Our team of 20 years ago was added to and it led to the Prem.

But we don't need to add to the current set of players. We just need to keep them together until the end of the season and see where we end up. It will hinder our progress if we keep having to sell one of our best players to weaken our squad/team and then give the replacement time to get upto speed.

We will lose a few. It will be painful. As long as we keep Hecky and stick to our guns I think we have a few good seasons ahead. As a 51 year old Barnsley fan I know you can't be on the crest of a wave forever, so gonna enjoy it while it lasts.
