As always start with the negatives:

    1. hayes scored but was still poor against a team of his own level. in general the strikers aint scoring.
    2. everyone afraid of shooting its pathetic. we had so little shots.
    3. they didnt know how to make there possestion count.
    4. we looked like we was a league 2 club.
    5. every match a 2 goal cushion seems to be too much to ask.
    6. IT WAS FREEZING
    7. disapointed so many so called fans stayed away. the attendance was poor.
    8. burns wasnt playing.
    9. the club need longer stirers for there drinks so we dont burn ourselves.

    positives

    1. we are in the hat for the next round.
    2. another home win with a clean sheet.
    3. seeing matty appelby. what a legend that guy is.
    4. got served quick at half time.
    5. good game by mcphail.

People need to start judging McPhail on performance, not a conception in their mind.

He was okay today, there were a lot of players worse than him on the pitch today.

    Where do we start?!

For a start (controversial I know), but Appleby was useless when he was at Oakwell, a poor man's David Batty. Me and my Dad used to cringe watching him. Sure he was part of our legendary promotion team so I have respect for him for that, but he wasn't ever any good at football. I laugh when people describe him as a legend.

Oh, and Hayes is better than a League Two player.

    Appleby? Useless when at Oakwell??

Sorry Journo - but if you seriously think that then you've either got a selective memory or you don't know as much as I thought you did about football. Or maybe it's because you were a lot younger when Mattie was in our first team??

To say he was 'useless' is a totally unfair reflection of his time with BFC, imho. I saw probably 99% of his appearances in the first team and whilst he did make mistakes, which invariably cost us a goal (Antony Kay of today?) - he wasn't that bad a footballer. In fact when we played 3 at the back and he acted as sweeper there were times when he was exceptional, especially in our away games.

Like I say - he made mistakes but then so did Adie, Arjan, Redders, Steve Davis, Thommo, Nicky - I could go on.
Trouble is, like Eaden - Mattie was an easy target for the fans - pretty much like Shuker and Hassell seem to be for some supporters these days!

I don't 'target' anyone, but of course I have my opinions.

Granted I was younger and not as wise then, but my Dad agreed with me and he's watched BFC for 50 years so I respect his opinion more than most.

Explain what exactly he did that made him a good player...

To be fair, 'useless' was an exaggeration, but some people rate him nearly as high as players like Redders, which I find almost comical.

Oh, and can you explain what makes a player an 'easy target'...

Because I fail to see what those players have in common.

People always accuse me indirectly of 'targeting' players, and it's absolute rubbish. If I say I think a player is poor, it's for absolutely no reason other than I don't/didn't rate them as a player.

    Personally

I'd say I was more comfortable with him as a defensive midfielder than at the back. He did have those moments where he seemed to daydream which, when at the back, either at centre half or sweeper, usually ended up costing us a goal.

Sorry, I wasn't implying that you 'pick' on players, Journo!

But there are supporters that do - Hassell has been a prime target with some this season for example.

I could go through some of Mattie's performances but we'd be here all night in that case! I do agree however that there's no comparison between him and Redders in the legends stakes!!

There's only one thing I expect from someone of his 'talent'.

The ability to kick with both feet. Sod all the 'skillfull' B*ll*cks. He's cost us so many openings by not being capable of hitting it with his right foot when players are in acres of space it's unbelievable.

His 'skill' is on par with Shuker's 'crossing'.

    As a centre-back and midfielder

Appleby stunk. I mean seriously stunk.

Sweeper? Best one we've had. By a amile.

    Well..

If we were at a higher level I think it'd be more of an issue, but the fact is that he might miss openings by not playing a pass with his right foot, but he creates openings using his left foot that nobody else in our team could even see at times, let alone play the pass.

People are quick to criticise him all the time and its slightly irritating when there were AT LEAST half of the players out of the 27 or 28 used on that pitch worse than him today.

    He's our 'most talented player'.

Who, apparently, would do a lot better in the division above 'cos this one doesn't suit him.

Eh? So, in the league above, they'd be happy to shoo him onto his favoured foot and point out the decent pass, but in this division they have the brains - nay, the sheer audacity - to make him look like a one-footed lazy twit on more money than most of us (except x) could dream of? Well boo hoo.

Eaden was four times the player, and he got booed. F**k me.

    I'm most certainly not joking...

I'll have to get mi favva on here to help me on this argument :pff

It's all a matter of opinion I suppose, but that's the beauty of the whole thing eh?

I remember him regularly making mistakes, he never scored, I remember in the Premiership he spent most of the time on his a*se because he could never keep his footing (Wednesday away sticks in my mind for this). So what exactly did he do? No-one has answered my question yet, all we've had is 'I can't believe you think he was rubbish, he was amazing...' blah blah blah, without any reasoning.

So he could break the odd move up, wow.

You'r certainly learning how to talk Martin Bullocks and stir thigs up.

Matty gave us good service during his time at Qakwell. He had a good game because he is playing against a poor side.

That was us by the way.:pff :pff :pff :pff :pff

Was always good for a clanger a match but he did a great job as sweeper for us! Was a great system with him there.
