By Donnysteve Thursday, 26th March 2009 Doncaster Rovers would have to put up cash for any future expansion of the Keepmoat Stadium. So believes Mayor of Doncaster Martin Winter, whose seven years as the borough's elected mayor comes to an end in June. He claims the stadium has proved to be a great success since it opened at the beginning of 2007 - but believes the cost of any expansion will have to be shared by the club. The issue has been raised by councillors as a possible plan for the future if Rovers were to be promoted to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history. The second half of the season has seen the club hit a rich run of form which has allowed them to surge up the table after initially struggling after winning promotion to the Championship last summer. The 15,000 capacity stadium was built in a way which would allow it to be expanded in the future if the need arose. Mr Winter said: "I personally believe the stadium has been a fantastic use of tax payers' money. "If Rovers do get promoted to the Premiership any future expansion should be done on a pro-rata basis with Rovers. Rovers' chief executive Dave Morris has confirmed the club will not increase their season ticket prices next season due to the recession. He says that the club do not want fans to pay more to watch football at the Keepmoat Stadium. Said Morris: "We understand the problems that people have got in finding the money to buy a matchday ticket, let alone a season ticket. "You can watch the Rovers now for what you could at the old Belle Vue ground."
they are 5 points ahead of us, having played 2 games more...............and they reckon they're heading for the Prem. Crazies.
To be honest I think its true excellent use of taxpayers money (as long as nobody outside Pikeyville is one of them) their chairman and their fans comments provides me with endless moments of mirth throughout the season. Great entertainment value!
"I personally believe the stadium has been a fantastic use of tax payers' money" So.... has my tax gone towards paying for their ground???
