Drink could have potentially ruined or even killed me.

I was adecent footballer as a youngster. I'm so glad in hindsight I didn't make it further in the game. I would have been a Best / Adams / Gazza figure.

    Just thought I'd share that.

I wouldn't be that melodramatic, but...

...if I'd have been good enough to be a professional footballer, I reckon I'd have behaved like a right tw@. The syphilis/gonorrhea would be more likely to have killed me than the drink though.

You never know - I might have found a mentor who steered me away from the evils of booze. I'll never know. Agree though, I'd have gone through some reet diseases too ! :)

    Interesting thought

I was an excellent tennis player when I was young. Took to booze instead of training. Saved me from turning out like Andy Murray! :D

    Mate, your'e not ......

...... one of those thousands of people I've heard say "I used to beat Henman for fun" are you ? :D

If I had a quid for the number of times I've heard that. Poor Tiger Tim must have never won a match as a kid.

No, but I did play a set against Buster Mottram just after he'd lost to Bjorn Borg in the Wimbledon Boys final. (I took one point - a double fault!)
