Three ex reds in an England squad. Wonder if thats ever happened before? Drinkwater, Butland, Stones.
I never really consider former Loanees as ex-players. We never had a real shot at signing Butland or Drinkwater. Always destined for bigger and better things. I'm glad we played some part, however small, in their rise to the top.
If we cant afford to secure obvious talent for just £1 million, as was the case with Drinkwater, then we haven't a cat in hells chance of securing Championship football ever again. Unless of course we have new owners that are willing to prime the pump a bit.
I must admit, I never thought he'd be capable of playing to the standard he is. I thought him a good championship player who may progress to play smaller Premier League teams whose only ambition is to stay up. This is why I should never talk about football.
Err, we have a chance of securing Championship football this season,an outside chance but still a chance. Drinkwater was always going to be out of our reach on a permanent basis. It's not just the initial fee but wages, bonuses etc that determine a players career path.
Bournemouth were favourites to go down to L1 when they got promoted to Championship. They are now in the Premiership...
Whether we could afford it isn't the issue. The fact that he was obviously better than a 4th bottom Championship side was the stumbling block. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
To be fair, I read their forum regarding him earlier this season. They were saying how he'd had a bad start to the season and how he'd been found out last season as no better than championship standard. I think he's improved massively over the season from what I can gather. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
Just had a read of the Man Utd forum. Fair few believe he's overachieving. Most basing their opinion on the Newcastle game the other night where he was allegedly average but got man of the match. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
Drinkwater may make the squad and even the team. As an England supporter this makes me feel like drinking more than water, to drown my sorrows. That we can produce no other.
