I've got a number plate that has GB sign on, do I also need a sticker? Or is that enough? Thanks

    it's enough

8 The Euro symbol on a number plate
You may, if you wish, display the Euro symbol and GB national identifier on the number plate. This will get rid of the need for a separate GB sticker when travelling within the EU.

    that's taken from http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/inf104.pdf

Dont forget there are a few other things you need

Hi Vis Jacket in the car! not the boot in France (and Austria) and probably some others
Beam deflectors - unless your car has a switch to dip the lights
    Warning triangle
    Spare bulbs
possibly a first aid kit and fire extinguisher - depending on where you are going

    - The French police in particular have been known to make spot checks on English cars - nice little earner for them

St Jean de Monts, Vendee, France.

In the current recession, booked a cheaper holiday for this year. Having 10 nights down there and chose to drive to save myself a few extra quid.

    On this same subject

We are renting a car, pick up Nice airport. Will the car have the required triangle, jackets etc in it? Or do I need to buy them and take them? Any advice on if/what I need?

RE: St Jean de Monts, Vendee, France.

Drove there last summer via Eurotunnel, left Calais around 1am, arived at St Jean de Monts around around 7am.

Cracking drive, just took a little while to get used to driving on 'wrong' side, but roads virtually deserted. Only sticky bit was going through Rouen, easy to get lost there, but if you've got a decent satnav / map / navigator you'll be ok.

    Cheers for the reply...

we're actually crossing by ferry overnight from Pompey to St Malo, and only leaves a 3 hour drive down to St Jean de Monts, so not too worried about the driving aspect. I'd just heard that the French coppers took had taken a liking to pulling English drivers over.... so wanted to make sure the plates were enough without sticking the GB sticker on.</p>
