Which is currently least hassle, A1 or M1?

I live in Cambridge and so always use the A1, joining north of Huntingdon - and I find it excellent.

From Huntingdon northwards it is all dual carriageway or more, but further south there are some roundabouts - eg at Sandy.

Did A1 yesterday and flew up. I usually go up A1 as I'm so bored of the M1

The M1 is a mess. 50 limits all over't spot.

I agree. I join the M1 at J15a and go up to J36. Last year I counted 46 miles of 50mph limit. It is not quite so bad now the J 28 to J31 stretch is finished but there are still plenty of road works. Despite this I do manage to avoid any serious delays. I am not convinced that 4 lanes without a hard should really is a good idea.

Been driving to surrey for 30 od years to see sister and family
Got it fine tuned if coming heathrow sde
M40 oxford services for a stop
Get off for A43 silverstone (cherwell valley services)

Dual carrageway 70 mph most of way few roundabouts
Ussually park up at Towcester for a bite in one of the pubs .get back on A43 few miles to M1 north or leftfrom A43 onto A5 which runs parrerel to M1 after just getting on A5 on left Jack hills cafe truck stop motorbikes ect. Greasy spoon breakfast. Crossroads further up .no problem
    Get to end of A5
join M1 after negotiating a few roundabouts near M1
A5 straight road litrally all the way and due to 50 mph restrictions on M1 probably quicker traveling up A5 to M1 junction further up
