Do the crime pay the time. I'm pleased he's in, he's 1 of our best sprinters so why not take him?

I bet Darren Campbell is pleased too. How can he repay that crime of costing him a medal.

Any medals he wins are tainted as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't have him in the squad either. Millar never caused a team mate to lose a medal though.

He's helped Canvendish win at the World Championship, though.

I don't think he should go

I've always been a fan of athletics so when Dwain Chambers came to the fore I thought he was brilliant. I was a massive fan of his and as I result I felt extremely let down when he was uncovered as a drugs cheat. So maybe one of the reasons I don't want him to go is a bit selfish.

But the main reason I don't think he should compete is that you never lose the advantage you have gained from taking performance enhancing drugs. During the time Dwain was taking drugs he built up muscle that made him stronger and faster. That muscle doesn't dissolve away when you stop taking the drugs, it stays with you. The illegal advantage Dwain gained will always be with him. He will always be stronger and faster for having taken the drugs.

I've mellowed to Dwain over the years. I now think he's a decent bloke who made a mistake, but I still don't think it's fair that he should compete. It'll not stop my enjoyment of the olympics though. He'll get nowhere near the medals and may even struggle to make the semi-final, so his presence in the games will be minimal.

Its those that preside over these and others sports that allow this to happen that I blame.

I don't think he should represent the country either, for reasons outlined above.

I'm fully aware of his story, he was a victim of the drugs culture and I have a lot of sympathy for him, but once you've taken performance enhancing drugs I think that should rule you out for ever.

Thomas was his lead out man. Millar finished about eight minutes behind him.

Difference is Millar was never given a lifetime ban that was supported by the BOA, but **** it let's have a team full of cheats eh??

'Cavendish made it quite clear that he wanted Millar in his team and that his presence could be the difference between challenging for a medal, or not'

Reckons he can only get a medal with a drug cheat in the team. Must be quality this Cav bloke.

    Yours,
    Hemsworth.

Just the 22 stage wins in the TDF without Millar for Cavendish. I'd like to know where that statement came from and I'd also like to know what relevance it has to a man who was given a lifetime ban.

Millar was given a lifetime ban from the Olympics by the BOA. The same as all drugs cheats. It's only because Chambers took the case to court that Millar has been allowed in these Olympics. He was banned from the others.

I do not condone the taking of performance enhancing drugs and I think it right that drug takers are punished and their records and achievements taken away from them. However, the punishment needs to fit the crime and I think that a lifetime ban is excessive. These people are professional athletes and the bans that they face need to take account of their short careers and the restriction that a ban will place upon their lifetime earnings. Of course, athletes are not paid to compete in the Olympics, but their earning potential is affected by their success in that competition. Finally, the BOA was out of step with the rest of the athletics family in the severity of their ban. I do not think it fair and reasonable that British athletes were punished more harshly than in the rest of the world.

What about Christine Ohorogou (sp), slowly immortalised because of her performances at the Olympics and commonwealth games, seems that everyone has forgotten that she was banned for 12 months, for missing 3 drugs tests. IIRC she didn't serve long of that ban before she was competing again, because she threatened to represent another country at the 2008 olympics instead of GB.
