[h=5]Former Huddersfield Town striker target Johnny Russell could be on his way to Championship rivals Derby County after agreeing a £750,000 deal with Dundee United.[/h] From Hudds Examiner
Reinforces again how difficult it is to compete financially £750k for a relatively unknown striker, and Derby are hardly one of the Championship big spenders, wait til QPR wade in. Another miracle needed by Flitcroft, Im afraid.
Re: Reinforces again how difficult it is to compete financially Yep, he's got a challenge on his hands assembling a competitive squad. Let's hope the new boys in the boardroom can hit the ground running and help bring in some players. Still need GK - Steele? 2 CBs - Cranie? 1 RB - Hassell? 1 winger 2 strikers - COG? 7 as a minimum for me
Re: Reinforces again how difficult it is to compete financially Yep..one of the reasons PC has decided to move us into the 21st century I think, probably no choice....its getting to be a very big league, the championship...2 reason, parachute payments and also the prize for the top 3 is immense...
Re: Reinforces again how difficult it is to compete financially judging by Don's interview, it sounds like Flitcroft has presented a list of targets already and contact has been made, lets hope the new 'regime' are at it already. Im assuming the squad will be going to Spain again in July so he'll want them in before then. I think we're looking at a new keeper, a centre half (or 2 if Craine doesnt sign), a right back/wing back, left midfield & 2 strikers (hopefully including O'Grady). 6 is the minimum, but is a big ask.
He has not signed yet and I've heard it said he is in Spain on holiday ATM. Reading the Derby board and they are not confident he will sign for them. Celtic are still hovering about, obviously knowing he is Celtic daft.
Re: Reinforces again how difficult it is to compete financially I don't think we are far away from Premier League Division 2
Reckon they'd do what the FA did to Donny Belles in the women's game. Vote us out cause we aint got the dollar. Cnuts.
Why? Surely if you are good enough you should be in the appropriate league. Or are you suggesting that poorer (less talented) teams but with higher profiles E.G. Sheff Utd should be invited into such a league. That IMO would just totally fk the concept of a league system. If that were to happen we all might as well buy a Chelsea or Man City scarf and prretend to support them. As lots of sad plastic fans do. Money and the extremes that some will go to get it will most certainly screw the game that we all love.
I wouldn't call Johnny Russell an "unknown" striker. I'd rather sign Gary Mackay Steven anyway, the show off! Youtube him.
t's totally wrong but IMO it possibly could happen, as part of a PL restructure that they might 'invite' some clubs into PL2. 2 divisions of 20 means there are 4 to lose from the championship anyway. They might make them 18 each or 18/20 (free up some dates for the expanded Champions League), so more low end championship sides to go. If it happened this summer we wouldn't be in. Hopefully our new leadership can change that.
