BARNSLEY are checking out former Manchester United Welsh under-20 international Ramon Calliste. In front of Oakwell boss Andy Ritchie the young winger scored in last night's 4-1 triumph at Glossop. Nathan Joynes struck twice and an own goal completed the Barnsley tally in Derbyshire and kept the club's 100 per cent pre-season record. Also in last night's team was ex-Birmingham City left-winger Davion Hamilton. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ross Turnbull, who played over half a season for Barnsley last term, has joined League One rivals Oldham. The Middlesbrough keeper's season-long loan at Oakwell ended in agony in February when he broke a bone in his hand in a training ground accident. He has recovered now and just signed for manager Ronnie Moore at Oldham for three months. The 20-year-old Bishop-Auckland-born shot-stopper has been brought to Oldham to provide competition for No 1 Les Pogliacomi. Turnbull has been a regular in the England Under-20 set-up. n Sheffield United have rebuffed a bid from Wigan Athletic for star midfielder Phil Jagielka. Officials from the Premier-ship new boys lodged a bid, believed to top the £3 million offered by West Ham, earlier this week, but boss Neil Warnock and Kevin McCabe, Bramall Lane's plc chairman, issued a curt response warning them he is not for sale. Jagielka also indicated he has no desire to leave United. The United manager confirmed: "We did receive notification from Wigan they were interested but we told them that Jags is not for sale and we don't want him to leave."
RE: Expect Jagielka to gowithin the next week then,eh Colin I'll be amazed if they keep him. Just think how many 35 year old strikers Colin could buy with 3.5 mil.
