i apologise for having to do this in a new thread, but for unknown reasons i am having trouble this morning replying to any threads.. it wont let me basically. ive already replied in essence, but having clicked post reply, it didnt work.. answers on a postcard as to why that is... SO, im replying now, to ur post in the thread "Shock, Horror etc..." - - - - - - - first off, i refute any suggestion that im so pro-Hillcroft that i always stick up for him regardless.. ive had my issue with what he says, as u would know if u read my posts.. in fact, i said as much in the thread we are talking about.. i agree he has come out with some random comments, but thats the type of guy he is. he is asked questions in the heat of the moment and responds appropriately in his inimitable style. he is perhaps too honest, too open at times. but that is something he admits. he said as much in his press conference on June 1st.. u also said he needs to start taking responsibility for good as well as bad performances. errr, he has done. he admitted after the Soton game that he and the players made mistakes, and that the display wasnt good enough, a poor reflection of Keith Hill as a person, and of a Keith Hill team.. also, why are people twisting the comment he made regarding our 2nd tier status? all he said was that given the financial disparity thats prevalent between us and the majority of clubs in this division (name me 3 teams with smaller budgets or squads), that to stay up under the current circumstances would be an over-achievement.. thats true isnt it? so how can SuperTyke say that because we stayed up in previous years, it means we should expect to again this? has Keith had £1.2M to spend on a squad, let alone ONE player?! Keith has had to cobble together a squad with less than a million pounds. Mark Robins spent that on Jason Shackell and Liam Dickinson.. in fact a lot more if u take Shackells wages into the equation.. when was the last time that a Reds manager had such a limited budget for wages or transfers? the last millennium? 20 years ago? dont say Danny Wilson. nobody can tell me that Hendrie and Wilkinson were lower league diamonds.. so Hillcroft are up against it financially. big style.. if we stay up we have done so against all the odds. we will have over-achieved. Mark Robins knew how stacked up the odds were, and bottled it. Keith Hill has taken us on, and already has made us hard to beat away from Oakwell. Davey and Robins, and their outrageous budgets couldnt buy a decent away record.. and finally, u say that the booing didnt start before games, it was after watching 2 abysmal performances... thats just not true is it? the minority of idiots started booing after about 30 minutes of our 2ND LEAGUE GAME!? there was boos, and obscenities screamed by grown men at our players the moment David Connolly gave Soton a deserved lead.. it was shameful, and heartbreaking to see and hear, and hurt me more than the so-called abysmal team display....
I sit in East Stand Upper, I didn't hear any out of the normal obscenities being shouted during the matches, a few boos at half and full time,no different to alot of other grounds up and down the country from Teams who had played poorly and not scored in 6 hours at home. Southampton,Boro, Morecombe (2nd half) did deserve to win, they played us off the park, we were very poor. The performances weren't down to the fans or the lack of money ,I think any set of fans in any league would have responded to those performances in the same way as Barnsley fans did. Luke Steele said they were abysmal and the players acknowledged that and were trying to put things right at training. Compare that assessment to Hills statements.......its all about opinions
