Hi,

I've recently bought a dvd player which plays divx.

I regularly download films, however these are in the AVI format.

Is there a way to play the films on my new dvd player without converting or a way of downloading a different version of the film.

    Thanks in advance

    Indeed

DivX is just one of the various types of AVI file available (and surely you had to download the DivX codec to watch those films on your computer). They should work fine on your DVD player.

Has the DVD player not got a USB port?

I have a DivX DVD player, and it plays AVI files.

It's really dull burning disks though. I have an external hard drive, which I copy everything to and the plug it into the USB port on the DVD player. Once I have 10 or so films I burn them to DVD and archive them if I ever want to watch them again.

Alternatively a 1 gig USB memory stick would do, but you can get 250gig of external hard drive for £60 and it's worth having so that you can back up all you photos and digital music ... the thought of having to rip all my CDs again sends me into a cold sweat
