I have forked out £124.00 nearly a month back (by cheque) on an Ipod. The seller has not sent me it yet. Initially she seemed co operative ie when asking her by e mail who to make the cheque payable to, where to send it etc (she wouldn't accept Paypal). The last week however I have sent her around half a dozen e mails and she has gone quiet. I am beginning to doubt she is genuine - especially as when she did reply about a week back it was blank! - and have basically given her another 5 days to send me the item OR provide a refund. I will then report her to e bay if this doesn't work. However, if i do report her what can e bay do? Can they force her to send me a refund? Anyone know?...................£124.00 is a lot of money to lose particulary so close to xmas. :'(
RE: if the chq aint been cashed just cancell it nt Alas - if only it was that simple. She cashed the cheque as soon as she received it which was shortly after agreeing the sale. Judging by her replies when she was being co operative she didn't seem the sharpest tool in the shed - but her ratings were OK on e bay so I had no reason to doubt her - even though her e mail replies looked as though a 3 year old kid had typed them!! My own thoughts are that she has now sold the Ipod to someone else and is using my £124.00 as an interest free overdraft. I may well be wrong - hoepfully.............I just wondered what e bay could do to make her co operate??
Its obtaining money by deception You must have the address you sent the cheque to, and then add a zero rating to her on ebay as well as reporting her to them. So you can report it as a theft which may get some joy if you tell her that plus she will not want a zero rating on her ebay account,
RE: Its obtaining money by deception Its getting worse!!! - I have just checked her details on e bay and it now appears she is no longer registered on e bay!!!! I mailed her earlier today to state that if she didn't send me the Ipod OR at least communicate with me by the end of this week I would take steps (didn't tell her what as I'm not sure) to recover the £124.00................................I do have her name and address as I sent her the cheque. Sounds very much like a Police matter at this stage!!
try contacting ebay and see what they say first i had same problem contacted them and got phone number of person after ringing them got my item
Cheers for that. I have just gone thorugh the e bay rules and I have got her tel number. I have tried ringing but no answer (I won't try again tonight given the time). I have sent her another e mail basically saying that I am aware she is not on e bay anymore and asking her to ring me tomorrow so that the issue can be sorted out reasonably and amicably. I have added that if she doesn't co operate then I will be reporting her to the Police. I'm trying to tread the fine line between co operation and not letting her think she is going to get away with it. There could be a genuine reason but I'm struggling to work out what that could be. To be honest it is a lot of money for me - but in the grander scheme it aint exactly life changing - I just can't understand why anybody would be so stupid to do this for the sake of £124.00. If you gonna do a scam do it big time and don't let someone know your name and address! Thanks to all for comments on this non footy related topic.
I'd Be Careful With PayPal too.... Digressing with your thread somewhat, but PayPal ain't as safe as it seems. I sold a Wii for £245. The £245 was cleared in PayPal at 9.30pm, so I posted the Wii the next day. Got in that night to find that at 4.30pm PayPal sent me a message saying that the payment was being reversed as they were querying it. When not query it straight away?. Managed to get my money back, but PayPal obviously not that safe (also, if payment is made by credit card a claimback can be made upto 180 days after payment!!!).
you got your money back... then paypal obviously is very safe. if a buyer won't accept paypal then i won't buy.

RE: I'd Be Careful With PayPal too.... You should record your post, that way you can just put the record number in and prove its been sent.
