I will be doing my bit most nights in June

it will be dark if I do it tonight.

Seriously I dont see how turning the lights off for 1 hour one day a year achieves anything
Not planning on sitting in the dark tonight.

Measurement of reduction in electricity use (from Wikipedia)

According to figures from EnergyAustralia, a local utility, mains electricity consumption was 10.2% lower during the Hour than would be expected given the time, weather conditions and past four years' consumption patterns. Although the Herald equated this with "taking 48,613 cars off the road for one hour", Bolt noted that it also represents taking a mere six cars off the road for a year—a negligible practical impact.

Blogger Andrew Landeryou noted that the drop-off in consumption could have been caused by consumers shifting their electricity use to occur before and after the Hour.

The 10.2% figure was itself challenged in a detailed analysis by David Solomon, a student at the University of Chicago. Solomon used eight years of electricity usage data to conclude that the Earth Hour-inspired drop was only 6.33%, and that after other potential factors were taken into account, only 2.10%, "statistically indistinguishable from zero."

Could turn lights off whilst watching telly!

I could save energy by turning the living room light off when I go to bed - that would be a start! 3 times in the last 2 weeks, I've got up in the morning and the living room light was on. Either that or the cat is switching it on after I've gone to bed!

    Nope, and why should I?

For far too long are the authorities and experts blaming individuals and trying to bully them into reducing reducing but costs spiral and spiral, when in fact its more than that.

If things are their to be used, they will be.

Now if they all got their heads together to make things more "world friendly" instead of corporate fecking gread and lining pockets of the fat cats and shareholders, then they may just come up with something that can save energy.

Until then, when its dark, my feckin lights are on.

(even though they are energy efficient ones :D )

    RE: Oh dear

No beer when working next morning so I can't blame that.

Record after having beers is all the lights downstairs left on and the telly and computer as well!

Not sure if this is equal, better or worse

But mine is gas fire on full, front door unlocked & computer on floor. I did manage to turn the lights off though!

Computer on floor?! Please tell me it's a laptop!

My ex once left the front door open - thought she'd locked it but it wasn't shut properly....fortunately it wasn't windy and the door stayed "pushed to" rather than blowing wide open!

    Nope

A tower. It survived a fall from about 3 feet & is still working fine. Not sure how it happened, I can only assume I got one or more leads caught round my chair & pulled it onto the floor when I went to go to bed.

    RE: Nope

Reminds me of when I was about 19, woke up in the morning to find that my hi-fi speakers were on the floor from the shelves about 5ft up!
My mum said she heard a crash in the night and wondered what it was....no idea what happened there!
