Is it just me that gets wound up by EDF's adverts around the ITV coverage? They ought to change their slogan to something more honest, like "UK Energy, owned by France". The idea of privatising the energy industry in order to, amongst other things, create competition and rather than have it owned by the state looks even more ridiculous the more EDF buys it up, removing competition (if it ever existed) and putting it back in the control of a state, just not ours (EDF is still mainly owned by the French government).
Wikipedia reckons they're German with a US subsidiary E.ON AG NYSE: EON)(LSE: EON , based in Düsseldorf, Germany, is an energy corporation, one of the 30 members of the DAX stock index of major German companies. It came into existence through the 2000 merger of VEBA and VIAG, its CEO (Vorstandsvorsitzender) is Wulf H. Bernotat. E.ON is one of the major public utility companies in Europe and the world’s largest investor-owned energy service provider. It has, for example, acquired Sydkraft in Sweden and Powergen in the United Kingdom. These have now been rebranded to E.ON Sverige and E.ON UK respectively. It tries to acquire Endesa in Spain. In the United States, E.ON has renamed LG&E Energy to E.ON U.S., and is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky.
100% German Powergen took over an American company called LG&E around 6 years. Powergen then in turn was taken over by the crouts E-On.

I have to spell it like that as they pay my wages It wouldn't stand up in court when spelled incorrectly.
Always thinking tha sees.

So which Japanese/French company owns British Gas then? I understood it was Centrica who are British.
RE: So which Japanese/French company owns Centrica are a brittish plc but i suppose it depends on who ownsnthe share
They've sold off (or are selling off) some of the shares . . . . . . but I think the French government will still own over 70% of EDF-GDF (I think it's the same underlying company - we get electricity bills from EDF-GDF).
