Got some top notch tips about a stag do in Newcastle from this board - where to go/not go etc - and was wondering if anyone could recommend a similar list of to do or not to do's for the Edingburgh.</p> We travel on the Saturday and go and watch Australia v Scotland at Rugby ( not my idea - honest) and we'll be hitting the locals that evening before returning back on Sunday. Any help gratefully received!</p>
If it's a wide choice of watering holes & restaurants that you're after, you won't go far wrong on either Rose Street, Princes Street or The Grassmarket. Fantastic city, not been since February. Must try & put that right soon.
If it's a "stag do" you'll probably end up somewhere around what the locals refer to as "The Pubic Triangle" - the area between West Port, Tollcross and Lothian Road. On nights around a rugby international, this is very busy. If you want a quieter time there are decent pubs down Broughton Street and Leith Walk. It really depends what kind of night out you want...
My wife recommends..... (and I'm not being facetious here, it's a renowned haunt of both hen & stag parties), The Three Sisters: http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/pubguide/threesisters.html
Edinburgh I went for my mates stag do end of august - ended up at jongleurs comedy club and then walkabout - cracking night
Edinburgh has a decent atmosphere on a Rugby day, got dragged to the egg chasing stadium last year by a kiwi friend, not normally a big fan but it was a great day out. Went for a few beers beforehand in the Murrayfield Hotel www.travelstay.com/pages/MurrayfieldHotel.htm Cracking atmosphere in there, keeping warm under the heated umbrellas and supping umpteen pints of guinness whilst having photos taken with very attractive Kiwi girls! They also put on a BBQ even though it was late Nov! I remember traffic being a bit of a nightmare afterwards, we ended up walking back to the city centre, stopping off in a few boozers on the way. In-terms of nights out, you can't go wrong if you stick to the Grassmarket area in-terms of hen/stag night central. There's plenty of boozers up the hill towards the Uni area too or you could even venture just North of the New Town into Stockbridge where there are a few quieter boozers.
RE: My wife recommends..... 3 sisters is a top pub to start night off from. From there you'll probably end up in grass market. Very stag & hen do's but still very nice. Also try Princes street, it's a bit quieter but still good. Dthe open top bus tour when you get there as it helps you get your bearings and see where the main pubs are. Good night out but not as good as Newcastle.
