It was classic 'Colemanballs' in the sixties when Manchester United were trying to find yet another manager to follow on from Matt Busby. Amongst the names we all recognised, such as Dave Sextion and Frank O'Farrell, Coleman also included as a candidate, "Jimmy Anderson of Barnsley." I spent a few days asking around if we had a wonderful new manager who was so good that Man U were trying to nick him from us before we even knew about it. Sadly not and it turned out that Coleman should have said, "Jimmy Adamson of Burnley." Two mistakes in one sentence. Coleman was classic and memorable for so many gaffes like that. I still have an old book titled "Colemanballs."
"He is one of the great unknown champions because very little is known about him." "If that had gone in, it would have been a goal." "We estimate, and this isn't an estimation, that Greta Waltz is 80 seconds behind." "He is accelerating all the time. The last lap was run in 64 seconds and the one before in 62." "And the line-up for the final of the women's 400 metres hurdles includes three Russians, two East Germans, a Pole, a Swede and a Frenchman." "The front wheel crosses the finish line, closely followed by the back wheel." "The Republic of China: back in the Olympic Games for the first time." "That's the fastest time ever run, but it's not as fast as the world record." "Forest have now lost six matches without winning." "There is a fine line between serendipity and stalking." "This evening is a very different evening from the morning we had this morning." "He's seven seconds ahead and that's a good question." "I think there is no doubt, she'll probably qualify for the final."
You're right. Here's the original news article. The first few tweets afterwards also referred to Burnley and Kaiserslautern. A foreign poster then changed it to Barnsley. http://ghanasportsonline.com/index....erslautern-chase-ghanaian-striker-edwin-gyasi
My favourite Coleman, commenting on a fit East German runner who had just surged in to the lead. " Marlise Goehr opens her legs and shows her class"......I think it was Ms. Goehr anyway.
Why is Ghana sports online always the first to break news about Barnsley?! Must be friends with Patrick Cryne on facebook...
